Samuel Langley Obituary

Samuel R. Langley

Dec. 1961 - Dec. 2016

Samuel R. Langley of San Diego, CA spent Christmas Day celebrating with his beloved family, when he suffered a massive heart attack. He died as he lived, surrounded by family. He was 55.

Sam was born in Mesa, AZ in December 1961 to H. Dean and Virginia (Ginger) Langley. The family moved to Palm Springs in 1964. Sam graduated in 1980 from Palm Springs High School where he was a member of the tennis team. He began his coaching career at the age of 15. It was while living in Switzerland that he met the love of his life, Monique Bally. They settled in San Diego in 1986, but continued traveling throughout the United States, Mexico, Central and South America with collegiate students and ATP/WTA tour professionals. In 1995, after the birth of his children, Jason and Anique, he lost the urge to travel, being homesick for his family. He decided to focus on recreational and upcoming junior tennis players and proudly celebrated their many accomplishments with them. Sam was also an avid musician, songwriter and music producer. He leaves an incredible legacy through the hundreds of his tennis students and countless people touched through his music.

Sam was loyal and a true friend who would do anything he could to help someone in need. He made friends wherever he went. His sense of humor and impersonations made everyone laugh. All who knew him were touched by something special. He was a joy in all our lives.

Having earned many trophies and awards as a competitive tennis professional, Sam won one last great honor at the close of 2016: the Gift of Life Donor medal. Already he has given the gift of life to many others, an amazing legacy. He was our rock and a true hero.

Sam is survived by his wife, Monique and their children, Jason and Anique; his father, H. Dean; his sister, Pam; nieces, Amy De Lima (Brad and grandnephew Cameron), Amanda Raymond (Ned Twigg); nephew, Bruce D. Raymond; his Swiss Family - the Ballys; aunts, uncles and many cousins in Texas, Oklahoma and California. He is predeceased by his mother.

Per Sam's wishes a small private family service will be held. Arrangements are being handled by Trinity Funeral Services in San Diego.

Sam was by far a fun loving young man! He always went out of his way to help others and share his skills of tennis with those who needed it.
I'm so glad his life will continue on in those of need!
