Stanley Boyd Obituary

Stanley Wayne Boyd, 77, of Cathedral City, CA, passed away on August 17, 2007 in Palm Springs, CA of a heart attack. Stanley was born on January 7, 1930 in Mallard, IA to Harold Boyd and Leone (Anderson-Boyd) Lathum. Stanley served in the Navy 1948-1952, San Diego and Japan. Upon his discharge he located in Long Beach 1952-1959. He then relocated to Reno, NV 1959-1961 working as a bartender at various bars and casinos. He then relocated to Sacramento, CA 1961-1975, where he worked as manager of the F.W. Woolworth Company. He then relocated to San Francisco 1975-2001 (after Woolworth closed). He worked as a bartender at various bars to include "The Nothing Special" and "The Mint". He also worked at a non-profit store, "Community Thrift Store" until his retirement at which time he moved to Cathedral City, CA. Stanley was a person who continually enjoyed being involved in raising funds for various charities; SF Tavern Guild, Tricycle Race, Godfathers Service Fund, COITS of SF, SF Imperial Council (his title was Emperor of Colma) and many more organizations. He is survived by a sister Carol Davis of Alta, IA; niece Pam (Tom) Nielsen of Cherokee, IA; cousin Dee McDonald of La Quinta, CA; and many friends from all over the country. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Jackie Barr and Margo Paeper; and brother Jerry Boyd. There will be a Celebration of Life on October 13, 2007 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at The Mint, 1942 Market St., San Francisco, CA. Private Inurnment will be handled by Woodlawn Memorial Park in Colma, CA. Anyone wishing to make donations in memory of Stanley may do so to Desert AIDS Project, 1695 N. Sunrise Way, Palm Springs, CA 92263.
