William was born Dec. 7, 1926 in Galesburg, Illinois.
He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II.
He married Carol Fox in Alton, Illinois June 16, 1968.
William was a physician in Internal Medicine and Cardiology for 31 years.
He was a member of the American Heart Association, a lifetime member of the American College of Physicians, and the American Medical Association. He belonged to St. Anthony's medical staff, the Alton Memorial Hospital medical staff, and the First Presbyterian Church, all in Alton, Illinois.
William is survived by his wife, Carol Fox Hays of Palm Desert; seven children, Mimi Adams of San Diego; Edward Pree Hays of Austin, Texas; William C.
Hays, Jr. of Dallas, Texas; Charles Georg Hays of Alton, Ill.; Gigi Sanders of Nashville, Tenn.; Thomas Richard Hays of Godfrey, Ill. and Eric Fox Hays of Manhattan Beach; and seventeen grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Georgene Pree in 1967.
Services will be Friday, Oct. 6, 2006 at Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Godfrey, Ill., and
11 a. m. Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at the First Presbyterian Church in Alton, Ill. Interment will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey, Ill.
The family suggests donations in lieu of flowers to St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton, Ill. or the American Heart Association.
FitzHenry Funeral Home Palm Desert Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
