Clara Miller Obituary

Clara Miller

September 15, 1914 - January 20, 2021

Clara Mae Baxley Miller, 106, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2021 at the Franklin Nursing Home, Franklin, Texas. She was born September 15, 1914 in Satin, Texas to Jefferson D. Baxley and Bertie Tull Baxley. Her family moved to Calvert in the early 1940's, soon after she met the love of her life, Kenneth Miller. They were married on October 10, 1942. Kenneth passed away in 1998. She is survived by her brother, Burice Baxley of Livingston, Texas. She was preceded by both parents and siblings, Olive Louise, James Albert, Jefferson Davis, Jr., David Avon, George Chester, Bernice and Jack Harold, and was loved by numerous nieces and nephews.

Prior to the death of her husband, she spent her time as a homemaker and ran their ranch before moving into town, where she lived until she moved to the Franklin Nursing Home several years ago. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Calvert for 74 years, worked at Norton's Department Store for many years, was past President of the Calvert Women's Club, and loved to play 42 (dominoes).

Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 PM on Monday, 25th, of January at the First Baptist Church in Calvert, followed by a graveside service at 3:00 PM at Calvert City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Brien, Travis Cochran, Marcus Greaves, Kyle Gregory, Jackie Oliver and Allen Wiese.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Calvert Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 565, Calvert, TX 77837 or The First Baptist Church P.O. Box 65, Calvert, TX 77837.

Sweet Clara Mae Miller - always smiling, always happy, always serving. A blessing to all who knew her - especially the children of FBC Calvert where she faithfully served in the nursery and children´s department & hosted an annual party at their country home every spring. She was also a marvelous cook and had the gift of hospitality - most notably in her kitchen and dining room. Her savory steaks were fabulous & Kenneth would often gently scold her to quit serving and sit down and eat with everyone else:) ... She was a jewel on earth and now in the showcase of heaven.

So many wonderful memories of spending special times with you. It wasn't mentioned what a wonderful seamstress you were. You made us three girls the most beautiful Easter dresses, and of course, my wedding dress. You are so loved and touched many lives. Rest in peace.

Rest In Peace Sweet Lady
Still have fond memories of the two us riding down to the Farm to the "Bottoms" as you called it in your Jeep to feed the Cows. Think of you and Uncle Kenneth all the time. God Bless You Both
