Claude Davis Obituary

Judge Claude Duane Davis, 93, of Austin, Texas went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. He is preceded in death by his father, Ira Lee Davis, and his mother, Edith Mae Davis. Claude will be greatly missed but we are comforted by the knowledge that he is resting in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father.

Judge Davis took great pride in being a lifelong Texan. He was a graduate of the University of Texas, a professor at Trinity University and Texas A&M University, a graduate of St. Mary's Law School, a Brazos County Court at Law judge, and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

Claude is survived by his wife Fay Davis, daughters Jan Chenoweth and Denise Kelly, brother Ronald Davis, three granddaughters, Katie Doherty, Julia Gold, and Rebecca Kelly, and four great-grandchildren, Bridgette, Lucy, Mera, and Nora. Claude and Fay were married for 71 years.

Anyone who knew Claude knew he took great joy in being with his children, grandchildren, and great children. He loved his family, politics, travel, gardening and trying new foods. Claude never met a stranger and could talk to anyone about anything. He truly was a man of the world, deeply religious and was loved by many.

The family of Judge Claude Davis wishes to extend their thanks and deepest gratitude for your love and kind thoughts during this trying time. At this time, services will be held privately.

Met Judge Davis back in his days in the robe. A standup eye with a keen eye from the bench, a real gentleman. RIP Judge.

Judge Davis was certainly a man above all. He was so kind and generous to everyone that he knew. He officiated at my wedding so many years ago. The world has lost a great man.

Claude was a valued colleague and friend during the time he was on the faculty in Urban and Regional Planning at Texas A&M University. His ready smile and wise counsel were available to students, staff, and faculty in equal measure. Our thoughts are with Fay and the family. David and Valerie Woodcock.

My condolences and prayers to Judge Davis' family. He and I used to walk the "halls of justice" together, him imparting his wealth of knowledge about the justice system and genealogy, and me trying to take it all in. Judge Davis was a good and kind man regardless of which side of the bench you stood on. His light was not extinguished but will continue to shine as an example to others.

To the precious family of Judge Claude Duane Davis, I am saddened in the passing of my friend Judge Claude Duane Davis. May our Gracious, Merciful, Kind, Loving Heavenly Father bless you with His Encouragement, Comfort, Care, and Compassion. I first became acquainted with Judge Davis when I was one of his students in a Political Science class at Texas A & M University. Judge Davis was one of the kindest and most caring individuals you will ever meet. Judge Davis always addressed his students in a calm and gentle spirit. After my graduation from Texas A & M University, I had the privilege and opportunity to converse with Judge Davis on various occasions. Judge Davis always maintained his professional and courteous demeanor when addressing you, and he was a good listener. Judge Davis will be missed. In the Love of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Wesley Eugene Peyton

I met Claude Davis at TAMU where he was a senior Professor. My academic rank and experience were much lower. Claude reached out to me at a very delicate time in my life to support decisions I made about balancing professional and personal life. He supported me and complimented me on my direction. As a woman, isolated on the faculty by gender, it was so important that he supported me or noticed me without rancor. Thank you, Claude. I admired Claude and was sad he left TAMU. Lucky San Antonio for receiving this wonderful man. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
