The Rev. Daniel Joseph Louis, Jr., passed to the next life early February 8, 2021, after several years of bravely contending with heart failure. He was born on December 25, 1938, in Caldwell to Dan, Sr. and Emma Louise Meyer Louis.

The family moved to Hearne, where he arrived in time to play in 2 state playoff football games. He was a journalist with The Houston Post and Business Week Magazine until 1970.

He entered Perkins School of Theology in 1970, and after graduation happily served United Methodist Texas appointments in Golden, Edgewood, Overton, Pittsburg, 14 years at the United Methodist Reporter, St. Mark's in Houston Heights, and First UMC, Jacksonville.

He attended A&M United Methodist Church in College Station after retiring to Bryan in January 2004.

Dan was a member of the Texas Conference of the UMC, Golden Rule Sunday School Class of his church, and the Texas Research Ramblers Genealogical Society. He was faithful, funny, diligent and determined.

He is survived by, his wife, Joyce; his sons, Jack Carter of Fort Worth, and Daniel Paul of Pflugerville; his sister, Louise Buckhaultz of Bryan; sisters-in-law, Dottie Mints and her husband, Mannon, of Victoria, and Virleen Strahan of Montgomery; his sisters' children, Tina Muth, Scott Tarver and Wiley Tarver of Bryan and their families; and a beloved flock of Tarver, Meyer, Drews and Louis and Zimmer family members in Texas, and the Meyer/Schmedt family of Dielingen, Germany.

The Memorial service will be at 2 pm, on Saturday, February 13th, at A&M United Methodist Church, 417 University, College Station, with the Rev. Preston Greenwalt officiating. Gifts in memory of Dan would be welcome to A&M UMC, or the church of your choice or any mission effort.

On behalf of the Hearne HS Class of 1957, I'm sending our condolences. Although Dan came to Hearne late in our school careers in Hearne (many had gone to school together since first grade) Dan and his wonderful personality and athletic ability made him a shoo-in with the class.
