Darrell Sears Obituary

June 28, 1939 - June 10, 2012

Darrell Lee Sears, 72, of Iola, Texas passed away Sunday, June 10, 2012, at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Iola Missionary Baptist Church in Iola.

Darrell was born in San Jose, California on June 28, 1939. He moved to Iola from Houston in 1985 and owned his own business building homes and swimming pools.

Darrell was a member of USA Boxing and was a youth boxing coach for twenty years. He was a mentor to the youth, carrying them to tournaments and providing love and support. Everyone fondly knew him as "Coach". Darrell also loved to work and take cruises.

Darrell was preceded in death by several brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Sears; sons and daughters-in-law, Lonny and Melinda Sears, of Houston, Adam and Jana Sears, of College Station; brothers and sisters-in-law, Allan and Beverly Sears, of Milford, Connecticut, Richard and Erna Sears, of Parker, Colorado; sister, Alice Nunley, of College Station; grandchildren, Dezarae Williams, Brandon Sears, and Shelby Sears; nephew, Kevin Sears; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Baylor College of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology, Cullen Eye Institute, One Baylor Plaza, Suite 171A, Houston, TX 77030.
