David Lee Chilton, 58, of Bryan, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2013, in Temple. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 1101 Rock Prairie Road in College Station, with Deacon Mary Lenn Dixon, officiating. Interment will be in Heathsville, Virginia at a later date. Hillier Funeral Home is entrusted to his care.

David was born December 21, 1954 in Newport News, Virginia, the son of Robert Chilton and Ruth Lee (Martin) Chilton, growing up in Houston, Texas and graduating from Clear Lake High School in 1973. He was appointed to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 1975, graduating in 1979 and serving his commission honorably for five years in law enforcement, port security and hazardous material safety capacities.

A devout Christian, most recently active in the community of St. Francis Episcopal Church in College Station, David has been engaged over the years in choir and youth ministries, in catechism and in community outreach. A musician and a lay minister, a scholar and a teacher always-beloved by students, by friends and by family, and by all who came to know him-he is dearly missed.

David is preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Lee (Martin) Chilton. He leaves behind his father, Robert Gregg Chilton of Bryan; brothers, Donald Chilton and wife, Patricia of Houston, Larry Chilton and wife, Lori of Plantersville; one niece; six nephews; special friend, Margaret Friend and countless others.

I visited with David at Blinn (I believe during U.I.L.) a number of years ago and still remember how much his kind and sweet nature impressed me. Please know how sorry I am for your family's loss.

I met David back in grade school. David never had a bad word for anyone and there was not a kinder person on this earth. He will be missed by all who knew him.
