September 15, 1938 - November 22, 2013
William David (Dub) Keese, Our beloved daddy went home to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, November 22, 2013. He began his journey on this earth on September 15, 1938 in Big Spring, Texas, when he was born to Ben F. Keesee and Zelma Jackson. After living in Big Spring, his family relocated to Abilene, Odessa, and Indiana when finally settling in Baytown, Texas. There, our dad graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1957.
Dad proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force and served until 1961 as an administrative specialist for the 96th Combat Support Group. He married our mom, Helen Dianne Johnson in November 1966 and had us three girls: Elizabeth Dianne, Mary Margarett, and Helen Catherine. We settled in Channelview while our dad was employed with Hughes Tool Company for 22 years. After relocating to the Bryan/College Station area, our dad was employed in landscaping and maintenance at Texas A&M University for many years. After his retirement, Dad worked part time as a groundskeeper for the Bryan Municipal Golf Course.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, collecting coins, watching westerns, gardening, listening to music-especially Golden Oldies-and recording our family history as a genealogist. Our dad never missed sending a card to family and friends for birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, and every occasion in between. He never met a stranger. Dad always had a pocket full of candy that he gave to anyone he passed. He was well known as "the candy man" by many, including cashiers at his favorite grocery store, HEB. Our dad was a kind, gentle, generous, and selfless man-he gave the best he had, even if it was his last.
Those who have passed this life before him include his father, Ben F. Keesee; his mother, Zelma Keesee Wooten; his grandma, "MaMa Jackson" and grandma, Keesee; brothers, Robert Keesee and Terry, Nick, Curtis, Alan, and Tom Wooten; and numerous other beloved family and friends.
Those of us continuing our journey to Jesus and waiting to see our daddy again include; us girls and our families, Dianne Poehl, Mary and David Derkowski, and Catherine and Chuck Hagen; his grandchildren, Jana and Brent Norwood, Mark Poehl and his fiancé, Caroline Dugan, David, Lindsey, and Brooks Derkowski, and Henry and Liam Hagen; his step-mother, Laura Keesee; a sister, Joyce Keesee; brothers, Jimmy and Benny Keesee, Jim and Bill Wooten; and numerous nephews, nieces, and friends.
Our daddy's body will rest peacefully at Oaklawn Cemetery in Somerville following a service at Strickland Funeral Home. His beautiful soul will be waiting for us in Paradise.
Donations to Traditions Hospice will be greatly appreciated, 1862 Rock Prairie Road, Suite 200, College Station 77845.
