Frank Sodolak Jr. Obituary

May 4, 2012 - May 26, 1944

Frank Joseph Sodolak Jr. entered into rest peacefully on Friday, May 4, 2012 at his long time residence in Somerville, Texas surrounded in love by his family. Memorial services will begin Monday, May 14 with a Rosary at 10 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan, Texas. Msgr. John McCaffrey will officiate. Hillier Funeral Home is entrusted to his care.

Frank was born May 26, 1944 in Bryan Texas, to Frank and Angelina (Barak) Sodolak.

Frank always enjoyed a few trips a year to Louisiana, hunting, fishing and bowling. When physically challenged, he even took to bowling on the Wii, always vowing to beat everyone. He always looked forward to football season each year so he could invite everyone over to watch the Cowboys and Aggies play.

Frank's legacy of love for family and dedication to working hard was so important to him. He was a man who undertook his restaurant career earlier in life and shared his passion of cooking with his family, always bringing good food and service to everyone who came to his restaurants since 1977. Let us not forget, he also left us with his Chicken Fried Bacon to enjoy in Snook, Texas.

We express a special thank you to his doctors, their staff, and the staff at College Station Medical Center who showed such care for Frank. We would also like to thank Southern Care Hospice for taking care of Frank and our family with such love and dignity, enabling him to come home for the love and attention he so deserved and to sit outside on his front porch in the breeze and watch his squirrels and birds and have his dog Duke.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank Joseph Sodolak Sr. and Angelina Elizabeth (Barak) Sodolak and his sister-in-law Denise Sodolak.

Survivors include his wife and first love, Barbara Mahaffey Sodolak, of Somerville, Texas, his son, Steven Sodolak and wife, Debby, of Bryan; daughter, Shanna Sodolak and Ruben Morin of Somerville; son, Brian Sodolak and wife, Stacie, of Bryan; son, Paul Sodolak and wife, Gina, of Somerville; son, Curtis Sodolak and wife, Tiffany, of Snook and three step children, Michele Gilbert of Houston, Mike Gilbert of Portland, Oregon, and Marc Gilbert of El Paso. Also surviving Frank, his sister, Angelina (Angie) Kanak and husband, Wayne, of McDade and his brothers, Charles Sodolak, Sr. and wife, Josephine, of Bryan and Emil Sodolak and wife, Barbara "#2" of Austin; sister-in-law, Virginia "Sister" Mahaffey of Trinity, brother-in-laws, Joseph Mahaffey, of Damon and James Mahaffey and wife, Connie, of Houston. Frank had 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Our condolences to the entire Sodolak Family. I didn't personally know Mr. Sodolak but had the privilage of working with his son, Brian. Also, to know his son, Steven, from caring on the legacy of his dad by opening a restaurant in Bryan for us to all enjoy the great Sodolak cooking. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of his fine family.

Hard to believe that we began school together at St Joseph's in September 1950 and survived for eight years(poor nuns). There were many good, family times during our formative years and I thank God we were able to share those times.
