November 18, 1920 - January 15, 2015
Imogene Havemann, loving and devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister and Aunt passed away peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus on January 15, 2016 at the age of 95 at her home in Birch, Texas. Born to William B. Heine and Lillie Schoppe Heine on Nov. 18, 1920 in Somerville, Texas, Imogene attended Birch School and was an integral part of the family mercantile business. Birch was where she met the love of her life, Leo Frank Havemann and married him on February 7, 1942 in Somerville, Texas. After marrying, Imogene and Leo moved to Bryan, Texas. They were blessed with the birth of their first child, Linda Kay in 1948 and their second child, Dennis Lee in 1953. Bryan, Texas is where they raised their family and became charter members of Faith United Church of Christ. Imogene lived a life of service and hard work. She was always active in the church and at school, worked in service related fields, and most importantly, her family's lives. Imogene and Leo returned to Birch in 1982 to enjoy country life and joined the Evangelical United Church of Christ. She was a kind, compassionate and generous person, a rock to her immediate and extended family, and a true role model, always giving of herself and serving others.
Imogene's days were filled with opportunities to make the lives of others better, from her work at Seton Hospital in Austin to Orr's and Piggly Wiggly Grocery in downtown Bryan, caring for her family, and preparing the most amazing food in Burleson and Brazos County, to name a few. Imogene was a devoted wife, unselfishly caring for her husband Leo of 60 years prior to his death in July of 2002. Imogene enjoyed her cattle, gardening, playing dominoes, and cooking and baking; fried chicken, sweet rice, and all kinds of cookies were her claim to fame. She was a salt of the earth person, truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed. A Perfect Eternity is awaiting an angel like Imogene.
Her loving husband, Leo; brothers, Jessie Heine, J.W. Heine, and sisters, Mary Dene Schultz, Doris Ann Kovar, and Pat Houdek precede Imogene in death.
Imogene is survived by her daughter, Linda Havemann O'Brien with husband Bill, and her son, Dennis Havemann with wife Holly, her sister, Erma Gaas, her brother in laws, Stan Houdek and Johnnie Kovar and sister in law, Joyce Zboril, and her four grandchildren, Cristina Hayes, Clayton O'Brien (Jennifer); Denton Havemann (Melissa) and Travis Havemann; five great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
The celebration of Imogene's life will begin with visitation services on Sunday, January 17 at Strickland Funeral Home, 530 Tx 36, Caldwell, TX from 1:00-8:00 p.m. with family in attendance from 5-8 p.m. The funeral will be held at Evangelical United Church of Christ, Lyons, TX on Monday, January 18 at 10:30 a.m. and officiated by Pastors Darrin Holub and John Boydston. Serving as pallbearers: Ronnie Gaas, Denton Havemann, Travis Havemann, Rick Houdek, John Moore, Clayton O'Brien, Dale Poehl, and Mike Wiederhold.
Graveside services to follow at Birch Cemetery, Birch, TX where Imogene will be laid to rest next to her husband, Leo and other family members. The family would like to thank Copperas Hollow Assisted Living, Encompass Home Health and Hospice, Dr. Kia Parsi, Sylvia, Veronica, Loanna, and Louisa for their care during her final years.
