James Brunson Obituary

James "Buzz" Carroll Brunson Sr.

February 25, 1951 - December 26, 2022

James "Buzz" Carroll Brunson Sr., 71, of Bryan passed away on December 26, 2022 in Bryan surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be from 12PM to 2PM, Friday, December 30, 2022. His family has requested a private family service following visitation. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers, Bryan-College Station.

Buzz was born on February 25, 1951, in Laurel, MS to Clyde and Nellie Brunson. He grew up in Petal, MS and later moved to Houston, TX. He graduated from Bellaire High School in Houston. Following graduation, he met the love of his life, Kathe Sodich, and they were married on March 18, 1972. Following marriage they moved to Bryan, Texas where Buzz established Olympic Automotive on 29th Street with the help of his father-in-law, Ernest Sodich, and father, Clyde Brunson. Throughout his life Buzz remained an honest, trustworthy, and hardworking man that truly enjoyed serving the Bryan/College Station community for over 40 years. This led to building great friendships and generational customers.

Throughout his life Buzz was devoted to his wife, Kathe and their 7 children. He was not only a great father to each of his children, but also a father figure to many boys and girls who grew up in North Bryan. He loved coaching baseball and softball at Bonham and North Little League. He loved baseball and sharing his joy for the game.

Buzz was a kind, caring, and generous man. He lived his life to help others. He always had a kind word and amazing smile to share. Buzz enjoyed spending time fishing, making BBQ chicken, and watching baseball, especially the Aggies or Astros. He was happiest when his home was full, loud, and crazy, which was a daily occurrence with many of his grandchildren stopping by for dinner, to go swimming, or just to say hi daily.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Nellie Brunson, brother, Haskel Brunson, and granddaughter, Hadley Mae Martinez. He is survived by his wife, Kathe; children, BJ Brunson, Katie Brunson, Matt & Ashley Brunson, Alicia & JP Stratta, Kristina & Andrew DeJesus, Lauren & Joey Gonzalez, and Andrea Brunson; Grandchildren, James & Hannah Brunson, Weston & Alyssia Weathers, Wyatt Weathers, Foster & Burk Brunson, Olivia & Gabe Stratta, Destinee, Dre, & Dylan DeJesus, Jace, Joel, & Jax Gonzalez, and Madison, Kaid, & Kai Martinez; Great Grandson, Waylon Weathers; and numerous brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

As I knew Buzz from work and became friends over the years. I can assure you he is teaching Jesus all about the game of baseball and letting him know how the game should be played.

I was a long time customer of Buzz but also became a friend. Always enjoyed our conversations about cars, fishing and life in general. Always pleasant in his demeanor, regardless of how hectic his work day might be. Will miss my friend.
