John Shows Obituary

March 25, 1941 – May 9, 2007

John Wayne Shows Jr., 66, of Dime Box passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at his residence. Services are set for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 12 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Dime Box, with the Rev. Reuel Cooper officiating. Burial will follow at Hranice Cemetery in Dime Box. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and from 7 to 8 a.m. Saturday at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home, with the family present after 4 p.m. today.

John was born March 25, 1941 to John Wayne Sr. and Hester Elaine (Hendrix) Shows in Matagorda County, Texas. He was a retired pipe-fitter at Union 211 in Houston and served in the Air Force for seven years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Dime Box, Dime Box Lions Club, Dime Box VFD and Lee County Tax Apprasial Board and was a Lee County election judge. He was a former board member of the Lee County Junior Livestock and the Dime Box Water Board. He enjoyed ranching and was a workaholic who was always early and loved to laugh.

He was preceded in death by his father in 2004 and his grandparents.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Shows of Dime Box; two sons, Jeff Shows and wife, Kimberly, of Dime Box and Danny Shows and special friend, Valerie Stille, of Brenham; two daughters, Kathleen Hoover and husband, Allen, of Boerne and Jamie Norris of South Carolina; three stepsons, Darden Hervey and wife, Shannon, of Dime Box, Lamar Hervey and wife, Kimberly, of College Station and Aaron Hervey and wife, Michelle, of Ledbetter; 10 grandchildren, Kacey and Kelly Shows of Dime Box, Ethan, Shaye, and Jetta Shows of Brenham, Kaitlyn and Savannah Norris of South Carolina and Allison, Payton and Layne Hoover of Boerne; three step-grandchildren, Kellyn and Stewart Hervey of Dime Box and Lawton Hervey of College Station; mother, Hester Shows of Ledbetter; mother-in-law, Alene Cottrell of Dime Box; sister, Pat Griffith and husband, Jerry, of Davilla; three nieces, Angela Griffith of Houston and Chris Schiller and husband, Michael, and Courtney Schiller, all of Davilla; and one nephew, Chase Griffith of Davilla.
