Paul Sweitzer Obituary

Sweitzer, Paul Keith

Aug 24, 1960 - Aug 5, 2024

Paul Keith Sweitzer (63) of College Station, Texas suffered a heart attack and passed away on August 5, 2024. Paul was born August 24, 1960 in Fort Worth, Texas and adopted at birth by Clayton and Ruth Sweitzer. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed in the Methodist church in his youth. Paul spent most of his childhood living in Houston and was a lifelong fan of Houston sports. He watched his beloved Astros almost daily and knew the game of baseball inside and out. He grew up watching the Oilers football, then the Texans. He and his family moved to La Grange, Texas where he spent his teenage years. Paul attended the University of Texas in Austin, and met his lifelong love, Susan, back in La Grange during the summer between school semesters. He earned his law degree from Texas Tech University and went on to practice family and civil law for 38 years until his retirement in 2023.

Paul and Susan married in 1985 and chose to make College Station their home. Together they have 3 sons of whom Paul was incredibly proud. He taught them to love baseball, coaching their Little League teams and watching baseball together at every opportunity. He served as a Boy Scout leader and led each of his sons to the rank of Eagle Scout. He and his family made many trips to Texas state parks where they all enjoyed camping. Paul was a lifelong learner and particularly enjoyed filling his mind with history, meteorology, and the Bible. Paul was a faithful member of Christ Church in College Station for nearly 30 years and taught his family about Jesus.

After raising 3 great men, he and Susan have enjoyed more time together, going to concerts and sports games, tasting wine, trying new restaurants, and taking trips to the Hill Country. They were blessed with 6 beautiful grandchildren who have filled their home with laughter and chaos and whom Paul loved immensely.

Paul is survived by Susan, his beloved wife of 39 years; sons Bradley (Katherine Richards), Quinton (Caitlin Gillespie), and Thomas; and his grandchildren Eleanor, Samuel, Jordan, Bennett, Elliott, and Landon, all of Houston; his sister, Amy (Tim Evans), of La Grange; along with his close circle of family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents. Paul will be deeply missed for his inquisitive spirit, witty banter, and sweet companionship.

The family will celebrate Paul's life on Friday, August 9, 2024 beginning at 1 p.m. at Christ Church in College Station.

At our last Methodist Youth Group Reunion held on Labor Day Weekend, we all reminisced about Paul and how nice of a person he was. He was ALWAYS pleasant to be around, and willing to lend a helping hand.

Our Prayers and Condolences to the Sweitzer family on the recent passing of Paul. I hated to read of this and had recently thought about him and hoped he was well. Paul was a guy that made an impact on you once you met him and I appreciated all he has done in his life. I met him because of his love for baseball and his son Quinton but spend many years after baseball running into him around town or campus and talking with him. We kept saying how we needed to get everyone back together for a team reunion. Paul I know you will be greatly missed by your family and friends and a day will come when you will all be rejoined. Again my families thoughts, prayers, and condolences to Susan, Quinton and the rest of your family.

As I read Paul's obituary, I had a couple of tears in my eyes, but grown men can shed a tear or two at times like this. Paul was a year behind me in High School, but he and I were in HIgh School Band together, drum section; and also in The Methodist Youth Group, maybe one or two other High School Clubs. Both of his Parents were always involved in some manner with assisting or chaperoning things; GREAT people. I never saw Paul much after High School, but I will always remember him as "just a good fellow." And I KNEW that he was going to do well in life. NEVER a controversy, never any meanness, always kind, and willing to help; always something positive to say. When I read his obit, and saw how involved he was with his family/kids, I thought, "Yep, that is Paul Sweitzer, a truly good husband, Father, and person.
