Raymond Reed Obituary

Raymond "Ray" Deryl Reed died on January 15, 2025 in Georgetown, Texas. He was 94 years old.

Ray was born in Alturas, California to Russell Jacob Reed and Nita Fern Wilcox Reed on March 29, 1930. He attended Tulane (undergraduate) and Harvard (masters) pursuing studies in Architecture and Design. He served in the U.S. Navy and Navy Reserve, retiring from the Reserves at the rank of Commander. His professional career was spent teaching Architecture and Design at the University of Southwestern Louisiana, Iowa State University and Texas A&M University, where he served as Dean of the College of Architecture and Environmental Design from 1973 to 1979. He was commissioned to design numerous homes across the country with a focus on energy efficiency. When not occupied with academics or design work, Ray liked to fish and tour the country - he loved the outdoors!

Ray was married to Patricia Ann (Reinerth) Reed for 63 years. They had four children: Kathryn Needham, Russell Reed, Ann Reed and Andrea Liles. He is survived by his sister Ramona Reed and all of his children, as well as five grandchildren, three great-grandsons and many nieces and nephews. Ray is preceded in death by his wife Patricia, his parents and siblings Marion Walter Reed, Tony Reed, Eileen Wadman and son-in-law Eric Reid Fulford.

A private family service will be held at the College Station Cemetery later this month. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the "Raymond D. Reed Architecture Scholarship", Tulane University (Giving.Tulane.EDU 504-865-5744).

My heartfelt condolences to the family. My husband Don and I moved from Hawaii to Bryan College Station and Ray and Pat could not have been more welcoming. Pat taught me a lot about life in Texas and I loved her and Ray dearly. Missed but never forgotten. May the Lord give you peace and strength during this difficult time.

My condolences to the Ray Reed family. Professor Reed was Dean of the College of Architecture at Texas A&M in which I was hired in 1977. I have everything good to say about the rewards I've enjoyed in the College in the years that Ray was Dean. I'm very glad to have been a part of the College of Architecture until my retirement in 2000. I'll always look back fondly with gratitude on those years.

Ray was a good friend at ISU where I met him in 1971 and later TAMU. He had strong knowledge and care for architecture which made him a good dean of the two professional programs. He will be missed.
