Richard Hickerson Obituary

Richard Benjamin "Dick" Hickerson, Jr

July 7, 1939 - May 1, 2023

Richard Benjamin "Dick" Hickerson Jr, 83, passed away May 1, 2023 after a brief illness at St. Joseph Hospital.

Dick was born to Bill and Dick Hickerson in Bryan, Texas, on July 7, 1939. He married the love of his life, Alice Porter Hickerson, on November 26, 1966 and they were blessed with three children: Richard Benjamin Hickerson III, Alisa Porter Hickerson (deceased), and E. Brantley Hickerson. He was also the proud "Pops" to Maddie and Brayden Hickerson.

Attending SFA High School in Bryan Texas, it was his dedication and devotion to baseball that landed him on the Texas A&M University Baseball team. Dick was most proud of playing first base on the 1959 Baseball Southwest Conference Championship team. He graduated from A&M in 1961 with a Business Degree. After graduation, he played first base in the Baltimore Oriole organization until 1966.

Dick and Alice lived in Houston where he started his career in insurance. They eventually moved to Odessa, Texas, where their children were born. After a lengthy career in insurance, Dick decided to make a career change to work for an oil field service company, which prompted their move back to the Bryan/College Station area.

They spent many years enjoying the "country life" and attending Aggie events. An avid sports fan, he was most happy watching his Aggies play any sport and listening to the play by play on his headphones. Dick was active in the 12th Man Association and Letterman's Club as well as the Turkey Creek Domino Club.

Dick is preceded in death by his daughter, Alisa Hickerson; parents, Bill and Dick Hickerson, Sr; and his sister and her husband, Ann and Don Moore.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Alice; sons, Rick and Brant; grandchildren, Maddie and Brayden; sister-in-law, Nancy (Bill) Blackwell; brother-in-law, Steve (Julie) Porter; and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday, May 8, 2023 with Visitation at 11 am and a Celebration of Life at noon at First Presbyterian Church, Bryan.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations made to the Texas A&M Foundation, 12th Man Foundation, Texas A&M Letterman's Association or to First Presbyterian Church, Bryan.

I have so many wonderful memories of our days together at church, Sunday night dinners together with all our kids, and just being together as families. Our lives have changed, but our love for each other remains steadfast. I grieve with you, but rejoice in the promises God gives us for hope and life eternal. Love you all!

For Alice and all of Dick's family-- I was surprised and saddened to hear of Dick's death-- Some of my happiest memories are of playing on the 1957 state champion Bryan Broncos baseball team with Dick-- he was a terrific first baseman and an even better person-- I am glad you had over 50 years together and hope many good family memories will help you as you adjust to his passing--

May he Rest in Peace. You all don´t know me, but I want to share a memory from my 4th grade. My teacher was Mrs. Hickerson. She brought a radio in to our classroom so we could listen to the Boston team play because her son was playing. I recognized the name and thought I would share. She was so proud!
