Richard Hise Obituary

Richard T. Hise

July 10, 1937 - May 11, 2025

Richard Todd Hise, Professor Emeritus of Marketing at Texas A&M University, passed away at home on May 11, 2025, in College Station, Texas. He was 87 years old. He is preceded in death by his son, Richard William, his daughter, Amy Martin, his twin brother, Ted Hise, and his brother, Terry Hise. He is survived by his wife, Carol Hise, daughter, Emily Rowden, son-in-law, Kyle Rowden, and three grandchildren, Emma, Dylan, and Jaxson Rowden of Bryan.

Dr. Hise obtained his A.B.A. degree at Gettysburg College with majors in Economics, Business, and Spanish. His M.B.A. and D.B.A. degrees in Marketing were granted by the University of Maryland. He is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Gamma Sigma Honorary, and his bio is contained in Who's Who in America.

Before joining Texas A&M, he taught and did research at Elizabethtown College, Shippensburg State College, and Virginia Commonwealth University. At Texas A&M, he published over eighty academic articles and engaged in forty consulting projects. He authored seven academic books and four non-academic books.

Dr. Hise was a member of Central Church.

Among his passions were spending time with his grandchildren, sharing sports stories with his grandsons, admiring his granddaughter's art, attending plays and concerts with his wife, and traveling to Galveston and abroad. He also enjoyed listening to his wife play the piano and organ.

Richard and Carol met at Elizabethtown College in 1962 when Richard saw Carol and invited her to have a Coke as she was leaving the Student Center. Initially, she declined his invitation, but when he insisted, she accepted. From that day on, Richard said it was the best Coke he ever had, and he never knew a Coke machine could "play Cupid"! This December marked 61 years of marriage for the couple.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for July.

Dick was my colleague at Mays Business School. While we were not in the same department, I always admired him as a scholar and as a human being. Our sincere condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace!
