Richard Lee Williams, Jr., 90, of Bryan passed away peacefully Thursday, July 2, 2015 at home with family members by his side. Wake services will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 9, at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Benchley, Texas. Homegoing services are set for 11 a.m., Friday, July 10, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in College Station, the Rev. A.C. Clark, with Rev. Roscoe Mason will be officiating. Services are in the care of Jones-Washington Mortuary.
Richard "R.L." was born on July 12, 1924 to Richard Lee Sr. and Sedalia (Sadberry) Williams. He graduated from E.A. Kemp H.S. and was a graduated in1948 from Prairie View A&M College with an Electrical Engineering degree. He was a WWII Veteran and served in the U.S. Army.
R.L. relocated to Houston and worked as an electrician and later retired in Bryan. He was the manager of the Williams Ranch. R.L actively served as a deacon at Mt. Zion MBC.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maurine Vaults Williams; son, John H. Asberry, Jr.; brother, George R. Williams; and sister, Elois Wooten.
R.L. leaves to cherish his memories his daughters, Helen Williams and Beverly Williams Moore; a daughter-in-law, Debra Asberry; a brother, Herman Williams; sisters, Joyce Mitchell, Geraldine Carter, Gloria White and Barbara Dixon; granddaughters, Kimberly and Jasmyne Grismore, Tiffanie Asberry Thomas and Christina Asberry; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Xavier, Jaylen, Keyana and Jayda; and a host of other family and friends.
