October 27, 1930 - December 25, 2016
Robert Matthew Albanese of College Station, Texas, passed away at home after a brave 15 month battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded by his family on Christmas Day, at the age of 86.
Dr. Albanese was a Professor of Management in the Mays Business School at Texas A&M. He was born on October 27, 1930, in Columbus, Ohio, to Nicholas and Angeline Albanese. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 1962 with a PhD in Business. He taught at five universities, but spent the majority of his career at Texas A&M University (1971-2001) where he authored and published numerous textbooks, articles and technical reports. He received many awards, including Outstanding Teacher Awards, Distinguished Service Award, and Former Students Outstanding Teaching Award. He loved his career of teaching and academics.
Bob was an active member of Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. He loved serving as a Knight of Columbus, and he treasured the friendships he formed with the men in his parish. He enjoyed silent prayer retreats to deepen his relationship with God; as well as studying and reading about the history/traditions/current events of the Catholic Faith.
He was an avid runner, finishing his final marathon at age 72 at Disney World. He enjoyed his numerous trips to Disney World with his family.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Donna Newman; his brothers, Jackie, Jerry, Mike, Jimmy, and Eddie Albanese. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Jessica; his daughter, Ruthann (Bill Cazalas); his son, Robert Albanese (Aydi); his daughter, Marianne (Loren Hodson); his daughter, Diane (Glenn Clegg); his son, Gerry Albanese; 13 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
His wife and family wish to thank Dr. Hackethorn, Dr. Jenkins, and the oncology team at the Bryan Cancer Clinic.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at Hillier Funeral Home of College Station with a Rosary to be recited at 7 PM that same evening.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church on Thursday, December 29, 2016, at 10:30 AM with interment to follow at the College Station City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
