Ruby Haliburton Obituary

Ruby Joyce (Dunn) "Spookie" Haliburton

August 31, 1944 - April 23, 2021

Ruby Joyce (Dunn) Haliburton was born August 31, 1944 in Bryan to Jim Henry Dunn and Eleanor Sanders Kearney. She was raised by her stepfather, Thomas Jefferson Kearney, Sr.

In 1962, Ruby graduated from E.A. Kemp High School. She later became a licensed beautician, working for numerous beauty salons and several funeral homes. She also worked for Farmer's Market Bakery, Texas A&M University and Dr. Steven O'Neal, Cofer and Cofer Law Firm. In 1980, she married Arvie Haliburton. No children were born to this union.

In 1985, Ruby started driving a school bus for Bryan Independent School District for 36 years; bus number 984, then bus number 131 until she went home to be with the Lord. She loved her job and was very dedicated and faithful.

Ruby was a mother not just to her children, but also many others. Ruby had a lot of adopted sisters and brothers that she would often claim she loved her family very much. Ruby enjoyed cooking. She was well-known for her potato salad, tea cakes, German chocolate cakes and sweet potato pies which she lovingly shared with family and numerous local businesses, never asking anything in return. Ruby also enjoyed hosting fish fry's where a lot of her coworkers got to attend. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Most of all, Ruby had a passion for the casinos. She chartered her own bus called, "The Haliburton Triple Diamond Gang". It traveled to The Paragon in Marksville, LA once a month. She started in April 2018 until her death.

Ruby never met a stranger. She loved the Lord and she loved everybody, including her family. Her favorite color was purple. She spent her life praying and teaching anyone who asked. Her favorite scripture was Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Ruby was a faithful member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Bryan for over 50 years. She sang in the choir, was President of the Usher Board, the announcement clerk, a member of the Old Landmark District Association and the Bethune Women's Club.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Jim Dunn and Thomas and Eleanor Kearney.

She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Brenda Peoples (Jack) and Rhonda Dunn, both of Bryan; two sons, Frankie Dunn of Bryan and Robert Dunn of Dallas; stepson, Kevin Haliburton of College Station; a sister, Evelyn Dunn of Bryan; a brother, Thomas Kearney Jr. (Judy) of Omaha, NE; three special granddaughters, Erica Dunn, Whitney Taylor and Quilla Dixon, all of Houston; a very special great-grandson, J'Varion Wells of Houston; a special cat, Fluffee Elaine LaTrice Dunn, whom she shared with her daughter, Rhonda; her dog Lola, whom she shared with her granddaughter, Whitney; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives, coworkers, casino buddies, and many friends.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, April 30, at Jones-Washington Mortuary of Bryan. Services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday, May 1, at United Full Gospel Church in Bryan.

I will never forget you Mrs Dunn. All the times Frankie and I were playing football in the street you always offered me a meal or made sure we had water to drink. Everytime you would always ask how my mom was doing. Not a day goes by that I pass by your house and don't think of summers I spent at your house or me and the family walking and talking to you on your porch. Frankie, Brenda, Rhonda, Robert y'all have my heart felt condolences and much Love Alex
