Shirley Haggard Obituary

March 1, 1956 - September 26, 2013

Services for Shirley Jane (Gloyna) Haggard, 57, of Caldwell, are set for 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 30, 2013 at Strickland Funeral Home of Caldwell. Interment will follow at New Tabor Cemetery near Caldwell. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday the 29th also at the funeral home. Mrs. Haggard passed from this world on September 26th, 2013 at her home near Caldwell surrounded by friends and family.

Shirley was born March 1, 1956, to Willie E. Gloyna, Sr. and Olga Frances (Faust) Gloyna, in Houston, Texas. Shirley was a member of the Elizabeth Lutheran Church in Caldwell and worked for the Caldwell ISD for 17 years. She enjoyed her flowers, the birds, squirrels, dogs, rabbits and frogs. Shirley was an avid fan of the Texas Longhorns, as well as Texas A & M and the Dallas Cowboys.

She was preceded in death by her husband, V.T. Haggard; her parents; and a brother, Willie Gloyna, Jr., sister-in-law, Judy Haggard, and mother-in-law, "Mema" Mildred Haggard.

Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Rocky Ernest Morrison Haggard and wife Chrystal of Corpus Christi; daughter, KorI Lynette Boyd, of Bryan; brother, Dennis Gloyna of College Station; sister-in-law, Sherry Gloyna of Caldwell; sisters and spouses, JoAnn and Earl Griffith of Lexington, Joyce and Clarence Hamff of Dime Box, Tommye and Mo Moore of Magnolia, Beverly and James Wilson of Giddings; aunt, Lydia Bolton of Caldwell; cousin, Joey Gloyna of Houston; grandchildren, Ty Nathan Lang, Cody Alan Turk, Cierra Brianna Boyd, Zoe Renee Haggard, Hailey Jane Haggard; dearest and long time close friend, Lisa McCleary of Caldwell, and co workers at Caldwell ISD, host of friends and Hospice Staff, she felt as though all were family.

Pallbearers will be Richard Laney, Greg Davis, Joey Gloyna, Keith Taylor, Joe Alexander, and James Sexton. Honorary pallbearers will be James Wilson, Bo Barnett, and Anthony Stevenson.

The family requests memorials be made to the Hospice Brazos Valley and the American Cancer Foundation.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Strickland Funeral Home of Caldwell.

May God give you peace in your time of grief.Shirly was a wonderful co-worker, she always had time for a smile and a laugh.She will be missed. Caldwell ISD will not be the same.
