Wanda Wieder Obituary

January 25, 1920 – July 14, 2013

Wanda Marie Myers Wieder passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 14, 2013. A time for family to receive friends will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Hillier Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 600 E. 26th St., Bryan, Texas with Rev. Ryan C. Higdon officiating. Interment will follow at College Station Cemetery.

Wanda was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Robert E. Lee Myers. Mr. Myers was of the Texas A&M Class of 1902. Wanda was born January 25, 1920 in Gainesville, Texas. Prior to moving to College Station, the family lived in Eastland Texas, where Wanda graduated from Eastland High School in 1938. She attended Massey Business College of Houston and the University of Houston. Her business career lasted 17 years. She rose to Executive Secretary of the Head of the Western Division of the Standard Oil Co. of Texas in Midland, Texas.

In 1940, Wanda and her first husband, Lt. William E. Lewis, Jr. went to the Philippine Islands for 2 years of Army duty. At the end of 2 years, they prepared to come home to Texas, yet the war became imminent and Wanda was evacuated with all the Army wives and children. Her husband was sent to an outpost, was in the Bataan Death March, and sent to Osaka, Japan where he was listed missing in action.

During World War II, Wanda worked in the office at Texas A&M College of Texas and also in Houston, Texas for the police department. In 1956, she met and married Russell Karl Wieder, an International Fencing Master at Texas A&M. He also coached and taught wrestling and combative sports.

Wanda and Russell were the parents of one daughter, Anna Marie Wieder who is a New York Motion Picture and Television Actress. Wanda was a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Art Club, and the Garden Club.

One of 7 children, Wanda was preceded in death by her parents and brothers and sisters.

Two of her sisters lived in College Station. They were Miss Opal Myers who graduated from Texas A&M in 1971 as the oldest female graduate, and the other sister was Minnie Myers McGough.

Wanda is survived by 2 nieces and her daughter.
