John Eiting Obituary

John Carl Eiting, age 67, passed away peacefully at Ohio's Hospice in Troy, Ohio on April 6 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Nov. 17, 1956 in Lima, Ohio to the late Jack Eiting and Marie (Redmond) Eiting.
He is survived by Marie-Andrée, his devoted wife of 37 years, and his two children, John Frederick Eiting & Kelsi of St. Louis, Missouri and Madeleine Eiting of Denver, Colorado and his only grandson, Jack "Oliver" Eiting.
He is also survived by his siblings and in-laws: Elizabeth Eiting (Dr. Ron Schutz), Patricia Eiting (Rudy Chapa), Caroline Van Roekel, Katherine Eiting, Sheila Lewis Houde, Michèle Houde, Rémi Houde (Mylène Blouin), nine nieces, four nephews, and fives great-nieces. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his father-in-law Pierre Houde, his brother-in-law Jean-Robert Houde and his nephew and Godson, Carl Goebel. John graduated from Minster High School (class of 1975) and studied mechanical engineering at the University of Cincinnati (class of 1980). After graduating, he began his career at Ford Aerospace in Palo Alto, California before returning home to Minster to help build Precision Strip, Inc, a newly formed family business. While there, John started and led Precision Strip Technology, the engineering, equipment design and build arm of the business.
In 1993, John left the family business to start his own company. In 1994 he founded Machine Concepts, in his own words, with "a pot of coffee, a telephone, and a Rolodex."
John loved his company and was proud of the people who made Machine Concepts the company that it is today. John's leadership style at Machine Concepts was one of mentorship, typically asking more questions than giving direct orders; "Hire good people and get the heck out of their way" and "Take good care of our employees, they will take good care of our customers, and everything else will take care of itself" were two of his favorite lines.
Despite his Parkinson's with Lewy body dementia diagnosis in 2012, John remained involved with and committed to the success of Machine Concepts and its employees for as long as his mind and body would allow. John's vision and mission of teamwork, ingenuity, and craftsmanship will live on with his legacy.
John had a passion for anything with a motor, he spent many hours building and/or restoring cars and motorcycles. In 1996, John realized his lifelong dream and earned his pilot's license. He flew single-engines, twin-engines, float planes, and was an IFR-rated pilot.
John loved adventure, especially solo adventures. He once flew his Piper Cub above Route 66 all the way to California. The state of Montana, where he spent a great deal of time fly fishing, held a special place in his heart.
Above all else, his proudest accomplishment was his family. He was a dedicated father who found great joy in his special relationship with his children.
He will be remembered most for his quiet demeanor, generous heart, resilience, dry sense of humor, quick wit, sound advice and one liners full of wisdom.
His parents inspired his deep commitment to faith. He often found strength and solace at the Shrine of the Holy Relics in Maria Stein and had a soft spot for the priests at St. Charles Seminary. He was a member of the St. Augustine church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 12, 2024, at St. Augustine Catholic Church.  Friends and family may call from 3 -7 p.m. on Thursday April 11, or from 9-9:30 a.m. on Friday, April 12 at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Minster, Ohio. Condolences for the family may be expressed in person or online at HogenkampFH.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Ohio's Hospice of Miami County 3230 North County Road 25 A Troy, Ohio 45373, or to the Maria Stein Shrine of the Holy Relics, 2291 St John's Road, Maria Stein, Ohio 45860.

Lots of great memories come flooding back when I think of John and, of course, his always laconic dry wit.

John was a wonderful husband to Marie-Andrée and father to John and Madeleine. I loved how he did Soapbox Derby with Madeleine when she was young. He built Machine Concepts to an incredibly successful company. Now, John Frederick will carry on his legacy.
