Teresa Braun Obituary

Teresa Bueme-Matson Braun began this incredible journey on Dec. 8, 1939, when she was welcomed into the Bueme-Matson family by her parents, Robert S, (Bob) and Marietta Bueme Matson. The icing on the cake was spending her first 22 years living with her parents, her sister "Carrie", her brother, Bobby, and her grandmother Teresa Lombardo Bueme at "Bueme's" Grocery, 700 N 19th Street. Teresa passed to her next venture on Nov. 23, 2024. Thanks to all of you guys for sharing this one.  It was fabulous.
Being an elementary teacher was her goal from the age of five. The route she took to achieve this goal started at Nicholson Elementary, K-3 followed by St. Mary School 4-8. 9th grade was at Test and she graduated in 1958 from RHS.  She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Indiana State University, a Master of Arts from Ball State University and an Educational Specialist Certification from Wright State in Dayton.
She was lucky to spend 39 years with children in various places. Webster Elementary at the corner of Finley and Vine in Cincinnati was her introductory year. She returned to Richmond, married, and taught for several years at Westview. A year out in 1969 with breast cancer and divorce was followed by her favorite experience in the Centerville-Abington School System teaching at "The Abington Academy." She and her fantastic daughter, Kim Marie," Simply the Best" met Tom Braun from Coldwater, OH. They were married in 1976 and moved to the lake near New Bremen, OH.  Teresa spent the rest of her teaching years in the Anna School System. It was a wonderful life with family and friends, boating, concerts, picnics, the theater, and adventures throughout the United States as well as, a visit to Sicily and also to Sao Paulo, Brazil to meet some of her Italian relatives.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Teresa Lombardo Bueme, and her great Uncle and Aunt, Frank and Angelina Paratore Lombardo. All three of them were Italian immigrants who Thanked God every day for the blessing of being citizens of The United States. She was also preceded by her sister, Carolyn "Carrie" Matson1942-1982, her Uncle Joe (Peggy), and Aunt Carlina. and her wonderful Parents, Bob and Marietta Matson in 1998.
Tom and Teresa retired and moved to Richmond to be closer to Kim and enjoy the hometown area where she had spent her childhood. She and Kim began a musical adventure for Kim's seventh birthday, our first Elvis Concert with friends. We love rock and roll concerts and have seen everybody who is anybody since the fifties. Favorites, of course, include Elvis, Tina Turner, Billy Joel, Frank Sinatra, Willie, Kris Kristofferson…. there is no end to this list.
A special opportunity presented itself at the RHS fiftieth class reunion. Elizabeth Pappano Maddox casually asked Teresa if she would like to help write a history of the Italian immigrants who settled here in the early 1900s. Five years later Buon Giorno, Richmond A History of Italian Immigrants of Richmond, Indiana was a local best seller by Teresa and Elizabeth.
Of late she had served on the Columbian Properties Board, and St. Mary Cemetery Committee, and was a member of Catholic Women United.   She was fortunate to enjoy several years as a member of the "Page Turners" Book Club.
Survivors include her best friend and husband, Tom Braun of Richmond, and daughter Kim Marie Shearer of West Chester, OH. (Kim's husband, Dan) brother, Bob (Meg) Matson of Pensacola, FL, her nephew Casey (Kyle) Matson of Kansas City, MO, and her nephew, Tony Matson of St. Louis, MO. She is also survived by her cousin, Linda Jane Hiatt Fullerton of Poland OH.
In the meantime, keep the faith, keep on truckin and I' ll look for you coming down the road, my friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2024, at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home with Deacon Jim Miller officiating. Teresa will be buried in St. Mary's Cemetery.
