Yolanda Schmiesing Obituary

Yolanda C. Schmiesing, age 95, of New Bremen, died on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024, at 10:55 p.m. at the Elmwood Assisted Living of New Bremen after a period of declining health. She was born on July 13, 1929, in St. Sebastian, the daughter of the late Clemens H. and Lauretta M. (Kuess) Schwieterman. On April 15, 1950, she married Gregory E. Schmiesing who preceded her in death on Oct. 21, 1993. For some 20 years, she also had a special friend, Clarence B. Tuente who also preceded her in death on January 4, 2013. Surviving are her children: Sandy (Joe) Wolf of Ft. Loramie, Michael (Cheryl) Schmiesing of New Bremen, Vicki (Jim) Meiring of Minster, Pam (Jay) Sturwold of Plain City, Ohio; her fourteen grandchildren: Janelle (Tim) Monaco, Scott (Lisa) Schmiesing, Jessica (Bassey) Eno Idem, Kelly (Michael) Atchison, Dana (Jordan) Settlage, James (Taylen) Sturwold, Leslie (Corey) Jutte, Alex (Britney) Wolf, Ryan (Vanessa) Sturwold, Brett (Lauren) Meiring, Taylor (Connor) Echols, Jon (Veronica) Landwehr, Caitlin (Jacob) Heitkamp, Eli Edie; and her twenty-five great-grandchildren (with one more on the way). Also left to cherish her memory are her siblings and in-laws: Erwin (Louise) Schwieterman of Bluffton, Ohio, and Virgil Wermert of Coldwater, and Clarence's children: Kathy (Wayne) Gruebmeyer, Elaine Heckman of Maria Stein, and Karen (Richard) Scott of Maria Stein. Yolanda was preceded in death by her siblings and in-laws: Earl Schwieterman, Virginia (William) Pottkotter, Walter (Mary Ann) Schmiesing, Jean (Ed) Wendeln, Elmer (Dorothy) Schmiesing, Viona Wermert, Maurice (Jeanette) Schmiesing, and Donald (Joan) Schmiesing.
Yolanda had attended the former St. Sebastian School. She was a long-time and active member of the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen where she served on the funeral luncheon committee, assisted with hospital communions, and was a part of the St. Ann Alter Sodality. She was an active member of the New Bremen Senior Citizens for many years, and also belonged to the Minster Eagles #1391. As a farmer's wife and homemaker, she loved nothing more than taking care of her family and later spending time and playing games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved being social out in the community, spending time with her friends, and playing cards. She enjoyed walking, listening to country music, dancing, and completing numerous stamped cross-stitch projects. As a baker, she always made the best angel food cakes for family birthdays.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Dec. 27, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen with Rev. Fr. Mark Hoying officiating.
