Alice Carter Obituary

FRANKLIN - Alice Dills Carter, 100, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2023. Born Oct. 9, 1923, in Franklin to parents Dutch and Carrie King Dills, Alice was a woman of extraordinary character known for her tenacity, generosity and kindness.
Alice moved to Stuart, Florida, around 1966 after meeting her husband, Sidney Carter II.
Alice lived a beautiful life and will be missed and remembered by the many lives she touched.
Those who knew Alice would describe her as a fierce yet humble woman with the biggest heart. She was a great conversationalist who welcomed anyone wanting to chat. She loved cooking, gardening and especially riding her lawn mower. She also enjoyed supervising projects on her rental properties and would often insist on lending a hand.
Alice is survived by her children, Carmella Pruett and Sidney M. Carter III; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Carter II; sons, Ed Moses and Larry Conley; and daughter, Betsy Conley.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sugarfork Baptist Church at 56 Shadow Lane, Franklin, NC 28734.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 30, in the chapel of Macon Funeral Home. The family received friends one hour prior to the service. Rev. Steve Reeves officiated. Burial followed in the Sugarfork Baptist Church Cemetery.
A celebration of life ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6 at Covenant Fellowship Baptist Church in Stuart, Florida.
