James McCollum Obituary

James McCollum Jr.
FRANKLIN - James "Jim" Gordon McCollum Jr., 84, passed away Monday, Oct. 13, 2025. He was born Sept. 25, 1941, in Macon County to the late James and Elizabeth McCollum.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James Gordon McCollum III. Jim was a member of Patton Methodist Church and a 1959 Franklin High School graduate. He was a life member of the VFW and the American Legion and a member of the Florida Submarines Veterans.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy Submarine Force for 23 years. During his service he made 22 war patrols protecting the freedom of America. Jim was a chief quartermaster on submarines at the time of his retirement. Jim has gone on his final patrol. "Sailor rest your oars."
Jim is survived by his wife Linda; sister, Margaret McCollum (Steve) Brown of Greensboro; two grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service was held at Longview Cemetery, Monday, Oct. 20, at 1 p.m., with military rites. Rev. Edward Evans officiated.
