Norman Farrell Obituary

FRANKLIN - Norman "Norm" Wesley Farrell, 88, went home to be with Jesus Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2024.
Born in Gastonia, he was the son of the late Daniel W. and Nora E. Scott Farrell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Frances Switzer Farrell; son, Norman "Wes" Farrell Jr.; stepson, Duane Wantland; brother, Jerry Farrell; sister, Sharon Long; and grandson, Chad Oakley.
Mr. Farrell faithfully served his country for 32 years before retiring as a master chief petty officer in the United States Navy. After moving to Franklin, he became very involved with First United Methodist Church, helping with the annual Church Bazaar, teaching Sunday School and being a head usher. He also volunteered at the Macon County Senior Center, loved going to the fitness center and was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association.
Norm is survived by his wife of 12 years, Rose Kendrick Farrell; daughters, Debra (Scott) Scarborough of Belmont and Paula (Paul) Medford of Gastonia; stepchildren, Sandra (Jim) Oakley of Chesapeake, Virginia, John (Judy) Wantland of Dallas, Texas, John (Ginger) Payne of Franklin and Sadie (Donald) Chapman of Franklin; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 12 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 24, at First United Methodist Church. Military honors will be provided. The family will greet friends and family following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to No Wrong Door, P.O. Box 1594, Franklin, NC 28744.
