Andrew Cooper Obituary

ANDREW A. "ANDY" COOPER Oxford Andrew A. "Andy" Cooper, 65, passed away Nov. 10, at home surrounded by his loving family. Andy had been fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at St. Mary's Church in Oxford. Father Robert Cloos will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. Memorials may be directed to his family for a memorial fund. Andy was born June 14, 1953, in Fort Madison, Iowa, to Robert and Mary (Foehring) Cooper. His fighting spirit was nothing new, as he had served in the U.S. Navy for many years. On Sept. 17, 1988, he married Susan Struzynski at St. Mary's Church in Oxford. Andy was able to retire from the University of Iowa after 34 years of hard work and dedication. He was a proud member of AFSCME, serving as VP and union steward for the local chapter. Throughout his life, Andy had always been an avid fisherman and hunter, and enjoyed spending time with his family. Andy is survived by his wife, Susan; and son, Dakota of Oxford, who lovingly cared for him in his final days; his siblings, Michael (Berna), Barbara (Jim), Rebecca, and Veronica (Jim), along with Sara; and other extended family members. Andy was preceded in death by his parents; and his in-laws, Lambert and Alice Struzynski. Online condolences may be sent to www.lensingfuneral.com.

Words cannot sum up a lifetime of memories, but I can say that life would have been less fun, less humorous, less worthwhile with out you! I could always count on a good joke and fun times, good conversation and lots of love when the family got together. You are such an important part of our family, one of us five kids, our cohort in all things ... you will always be part of us, and we will pick up where we left off... we see you again soon bro!! All of our love, Roni and family ❤
