John Jaeger Obituary

John Jaeger, 75, died Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the Mercy Hospice House, Hiawatha after a long battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held 11:00 Thursday morning, January 16, 2025, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery. Pastor Kathryn Newhall will preside at the services. Friends may call from 9:00 until 11:00 at the funeral home on Thursday morning. Surviving are his wife Sue, 2 children, Tony (Leesa) Jaeger, Lisa (Allen) Dirks, 5 grandchildren, Jordan Jaeger, Dillion (Nikki) Graf, LeAnn (Eric) Dillard, Karly (Scott Wilson) Dirks, Lexie Jaeger, 3 great-grandchildren, a brother, Dan, 2 brothers-in-law, Tom Duffy and Chuck Houston, his little chiweenie Lucy, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Dave, Janice, Charlotte, Slyvia, Phyllis, Elmmer, his in-laws, Vern and Joyce Houston, Karen, Sherri and Sandy. John Terry Jaeger was born October 4, 1949, a life-long resident of Monticello, graduating in 1969, marring his high school sweetheart Susan Houston, in 1972. He was employed at Cuckler Buildings his whole forty-year working career, retiring from Star Manufacturing in 2012 where he was known as the "Candy Man". John loved the outdoors, he loved all sports, with his favorites being the Hawkeyes, Green Bay Packers and the Monticello Panthers. He spent many Friday nights at the Farley Raceway. He took a week off every year to attend the Great Jones County Fair. John was a man of dignity and pride. He was loved by all that knew him.
