Kenneth Smejkal Obituary

Kenneth A. Smejkal of Hiawatha, Iowa, went to be with Jesus Christ on Thursday, July 4, 2024. A visitation will be held from 9 - 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2024, Calvary Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids, with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will take place at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids at a later date. Ken was born November 3, 1941, to Tony and Marian (Crha)Smejkal in Crete, Nebraska. He was married to Donna Comp, the love of his life, in Cedar Rapids. They had 36 wonderful years together. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Marian Smejkal; sister, RoseMary Deprez; and brother, Richard Smejkal. He is survived by his wife, Donna. After his high school education in York, Nebraska, Ken served in both active duty and inactive duty in the Nebraska National Guard from 1961-1964. After this, Ken attended Southeast Technical College in Milford, Nebraska, graduating with a degree in Electronics Technology in 1967. He began his work career at Collins Radio, later known as Rockwell Collins, retiring from there in 1998. Ken began his spiritual relationship with His Savior and Lord in the spring of 1974. He enjoyed 40 years of serving at New Covenant Bible Church. He was presently attending Calvary Baptist Church. Together, Ken and Donna enjoyed leading chapel services at Northbrook Manor Care Center for many years. One of Ken's greatest joys was seeing his immediate family come to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Memorials may be directed to Calvary Baptist Church or Cedar Falls Bible Conference. Ken was a very dear family friend and he will be greatly missed. Ken shared his love of our Lord, Jesus Christ, with everyone. He had a very strong impact on my faith. My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to his beloved wife, Donna.
