Nicholas "Nick" Wheeler

NICHOLAS "NICK" WHEELER Marion Nicholas "Nick" Wheeler, 22, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, 2018, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Following the service, the family will greet friends and family until 4 p.m. Nick was born June 25, 1996, in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Marion High School in 2015. Nick was a valued member of Charlie Company, 224th Brigade Engineer Battalion, located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He served as a radio retransmission operator for the Iowa Army National Guard. Nick provided communication support so that all entities could effectively communicate in a timely and accurate manner. Upon graduation from high school, he attended basic combat training at Fort Benning, Ga., and advanced individual training at Fort Gordon, Ga. Nick's awards include the Army Achievement Medal and the Army Service Ribbon. He was a security guard at GoDaddy. Nick had a gentle heart and a smile that could warm a room. He loved to travel at any opportunity. Nick was smart, kind, witty and a great friend. He enjoyed using his wing span to wrap his arms around his family and friends. Nick is survived by his mother, Amy (Pat) Bartels of Marion; father, Shayne Wheeler of Springville; siblings, Chayse Wheeler of Chicago, Breckin and Ella Bartels of Marion; grandparents, Dan and Gail Husmann of Cedar Rapids, Kent and Kristine Wheeler of Springville, and Mary and David Elgin of Cedar Rapids; great-grandmothers, Doris Henderson of Anamosa and Ann Mollenhauer of Marion; aunts and uncles, Ben (Allison) Husmann, Clint Wheeler and Cindy Hradek; and numerous loving cousins. He is preceded in death by his great-grandfather, Kenneth Henderson. A memorial fund has been established in Nick's memory.
