Shirley Pratt Obituary

Shirley Pratt, beloved wife of Gordon Pratt for 62 years, passed away May 13th, 2024, after a fall. She is survived by her daughters Kristine McIntyre, Susan Derdiger, and Shelese Pratt. With 5 grandchildren: Brendan McGeever, Erin McGeever, Amanda Derdiger, Samara Derdiger, Julian Pratt, plus great grand-daughter Nora McGeever. She was preceded in death by her parents Jerry & Dorothy Crane and brother Ron. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother who was always there when we needed her most, offering support, wisdom, and abundant love. A friend to many, she was a cherished member of the community in Boulder, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and strength. She was born Littleport, Iowa in 1939. Grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After Graduating in 1958 from Jefferson High School, She received a Nursing Diploma from Mercy School of Nursing in 1960 and a BSN from Coe College in the 80s. She married Gordon Pratt in 1962. She practiced nursing in several disciplines from home health care in Linn county Iowa to Oncology and NICU in Colorado at Boulder Community Hospital. After retiring she became an active member in PEO, Saint Thomas Aquinas Church, several local book groups, Prayer groups and Boulder Newcomers groups. Shirley's life will be celebrated with a Mass August 15 at Sacred Heart of Mary, Boulder and then a Celebration of Life.

Hello, Shirley and I were neighbors in Lake Valley for a number of years in the 90's. We were also co-workers at Boulder Community Hospital during those years. Shirley was the hospital nurse in attendance at the birth of my son William and then thirty years later when he died of cancer she attended his funeral. She said to me: " I was present at his birth and I'm honored to be present at the end of his life as well." Shirley was a warm positive person and it was good to have known her. My prayers are for her and her family.

To Gordon and all of their family , I too, am so sorry and sad for your loss.
I echo Paula Martin-Herold“s comments ,
having been a classmate , and graduate from MHS of Nursing 1961 with them.
I treasure the memories with Shirley in school; and later with Gordon and Shirley when my husband and I were blessed with visits in their home. Their warm generous hospitality will never be forgotten.
Shirley was a joy to be with!
Her smile and and keen sense of humor reflected her love for God , her beloved family and all those in her path.
My time with Shirley in quiet moments enriched my life as she shared her interest in her faith in God , family , career, books , outdoors, sewing , knitting , cooking , of course service in community and so much more!
Remembering her strength the last time we met for dinner in Colorado ,
She was so strong !
With a limp, she was determined , with a smile , to
walk to their car to give me a beautiful plate inscribed with Bible verses she had found
" just for " me.
Although she will be greatly missed, may treasured memories bring comfort and peace to all.

To Gordon and all of Shirley's Family,
I am deeply sorry to read this. I am sad. We were classmates and friends at MHSchool of Nursing and have stayed in contact since Graduation in 1961. I am thankful that we got to be together once again last September at MMU for a wonderful Nursing Celebration in Cedar Rapids. Prayers for all of you.
