Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 17, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Tom will be remembered by his wife of 45 years, Pat; his two children, Chantelle (Darrell) Haack and Blake (Libby) Uthoff, all of Marengo; six grandchildren, Braden Uthoff, Caleb Haack, A.J. Mulder, Xavier Mulder, Henry Uthoff and Jackson Uthoff; three siblings, Bonnie (Jerry) Callahan of Cascade, Dale (Diane) Uthoff of Cedar Rapids and Diane (Bob) Caffrey of Cedar Rapids; sisters-in-law, Dottie Uthoff, Melia Tatman, Lisa Tatman (Brad Maus) and Sarah Ary; brothers-in-law, Mike Weaver, Dave (LeAnn) Tatman and Dan Tatman; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Duane Uthoff and Eileen Weaver; a sister-in-law, Ellen Sievers; and his two beloved Golden Retrievers, Reggie and Jake. Thomas Henry Uthoff was born Feb. 8, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Walter and Eleanor (Mealman) Uthoff. He graduated from Norway High School in 1970. Following high school, Tom attended an autobody school in Omaha, Neb., receiving a certificate in autobody repair. On Jan. 28, 1978, he was united in marriage to Pat Tatman at St. Michael's Catholic Church, in Belle Plaine. He worked at various places in the area over the years, including Amana Refrigeration, owned and operated Tom's Tap, in Marengo, from 1974-1979, B and B Motors, in Belle Plaine and lastly Charles Capper Auto Center, in Marengo. Tom was a familiar face at Cappers, he worked in the parts and service department, then moved on to transporting cars and detailing, before he "retired," but just a little. Tom had a huge passion for cars. He enjoyed going fishing, selling cars at the dealer auctions, sitting in his lawn chair and drinking a few beers. "Spook" as he was nicknamed by his friends, enjoyed gathering and having endless conversations with them. Hosting the yearly family Christmas for nearly 50 years was something he looked forward to. Tom was a devoted family man and loved his children, grandchildren and his dogs. He would lend a helping hand to anyone in need and was rarely without a positive comment.
