Alice Hayes Obituary

Alice Fiedler Hayes
Born: January 24, 1926 in Ottumwa, IA
Died: June 11, 2025 in Mason City, IA
Alice Haynes, age 99, wife of Stanley F. Haynes of Mason City, died on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at Heritage Care and Rehabilitation Center. Arrangements are with Fullerton Funeral Home. Alice will be laid to rest with a private graveside service at Elmwood-St Joseph Cemetery.
She was born on January 24, 1926, to Frank D. and Sue (Bedinger) Fiedler in Ottumwa, Iowa. Following graduation from the Ottumwa school system, she attended Flora McDonald College in Red Springs N.C., and then transferred to Iowa State University in Ames, where she graduated in 1947 with a B.S. Degree. She married Stanley F. Haynes on September 4, 1948, in Ottumwa.
Alice was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served for many years as coordinator for their partnership with Community Kitchen. She belonged to Maria Mitchell Study Clubs and the Chi Omega sorority. Alice was a former member of the Mason City Country Club, and a devoted golfer. She served for many years as golf chairman and general chairman of the Country Club Ladies Association, as well as being on the club's board of directors. She also enjoyed being a docent at the MacNider Museum for several years.
Although most of her career was spent as a homemaker, she was employed from 1970 - 1977 as a field director for Girl Scouts of the USA. During that period, she received the Thanks badge from Shabonee Council (now known as Mississippi Valley Council.)
Survivors left to cherish her memory include her daughter Susan Haynes of Mason City, her grandson Sam Byrd of Joliet, Illinois, and her granddaughter Sophie Haynes - McNair of Mason City. She will also be missed by several nieces and nephews: Tom (Ava) Pauley of Forest City, Iowa, Tris Hasapopoulos of Vadnais Heights, Minnesota, Jack (Joanne) Pauley of Lake Oswego, Oregon, Laura (Gerry) Shimek of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, David Haynes of Richfield, Minnesota, and Jane Haynes (Late husband Max Haynes) of Maple Grove, Minnesota.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Stanley, a daughter in infancy, and her sons Frank Peter Haynes and Stanley Christopher Haynes. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Janet Godecke.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Presbyterian church, the local Girl Scout Council, Community Kitchen, the MacNider Art Museum, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
