James Briscoe Obituary

James B. Briscoe
James B. Briscoe, a lifelong resident of Joliet, IL, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025, at the age of 90. Jim was born on October 28, 1934, the beloved son of the late Joseph and Clara (nee Fordonski) Briscoe. He was a proud graduate of Holy Cross Grade School, Joliet Township High School, and Joliet Junior College. His professional journey led him to a dedicated career in the Circulation Department at the Herald News, where he was known for his reliability and commitment. Beyond the workplace, he was active in his community, contributing his time and spirit to the Lions Club, participating with pride in the Old Timers Baseball organization, and an active member of Holy Family Parish.
A veteran of the United States Army, James served his country honorably and carried a lasting sense of duty and integrity throughout his life. His thoughtful nature and loving presence touched the lives of many, especially his family, whom he cherished deeply.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Kathleen M. (nee Flynn) Briscoe; and his loving daughters, Luanne Briscoe, Maureen (Steve) Morrissette, Danielle (Matt) Morrissette, and Carrie (Chris) Stepanek. He was an adoring grandfather and great-grandfather to Tim and Meridith Bauer, Lauren Skiniotes, Dan (Brittany) Morrissette, Michael (Gina) Morrissette, Katie (Ryan Utter) Morrissette, Meghan (Kyle McBrady) Morrissette, Emily and Allie Morrissette, Ethan, Olivia, and Adam Stepanek, Nevaeh Bauer, Lucas, Andrew and Madison Morrissette, Patrick, and Thomas Morrissette, and Liam and Callan Utter. His life was shaped by love, including the treasured memory of his first wife, Mary Lou (née Brehn) Briscoe, who preceded him in death.
Jim lived with quiet strength, offering kindness and stability to those around him. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of faith, family, and community. His memory will be carried on in the hearts of his loved ones and in the fabric of the community he held so dear.
A Memorial Gathering for James B. Briscoe will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, at the Fred C. One of my favorite memories of Jim is when Kay had us over for a Mexican themed lunch and Jim opened the door wearing a sarape and sombrero! That set the tone for a wonderful time.
