John Cabrera Obituary

John J. Cabrera

John Joseph Cabrera, age 86, of Joliet, passed away peacefully, Monday, September 24, 2018 at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born June 24, 1932 in Joliet, he was the son of Joseph and Trinadad (nee Barsones) Cabrera. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War.

John worked as a meat cutter for ICFW Local #1546 during his career which spanned more than 40 years. After retirement, he embarked on a second career at Empress Casino.

John was a loving family man who devoted his life and time to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His love was unconditional for each and every family member. John had a love of history, enjoyed the outdoors, celebrated family meals, and was an avid sports fan. In his retirement, he was blessed to be able to travel the world.

He was the devoted father of John R. (the late Cecilia), Kenneth, Camille (Gust) Logothetis, Craig (Stephanie) and Jaime Cabrera; the beloved grandfather of Ryan (Catalina) Steinhouse, Barbara (Kevin) Malloy, Trudy, Gabriel, Craig and Kylie Cabrera, and Alec, Adam, Deana, Drew and Aaron Logothetis; and the proud PeePaw of Evan and Keira Steinhouse, Caeden and Ezra Cabrera, and Connor Malloy. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Carmen (the late Daniel) Cabrera, Joseph Cabrera, Robert (Audrey) Cabrera, Patsy (Ed) Hernandez, Mary Lou (Ed) Chartrand, JoAnn (the late Victor) Pena, and Connie (the late James) Bair; a sister-in-law, Adela Cabrera; many nieces and nephews; and his wife's extended family in Ottawa, IL.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Mary Theresa (nee Almeda) Cabrera (September 24, 2010); his son, Leonard (December 12, 2012); his parents; a daughter-in-law, Cecilia; and a brother, Jesse Cabrera.
