Lillian Mary Petrick
Lillian Mary Petrick, age 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family in thought and physical presence on Friday, April 18, 2025, at her home in Plainfield. Born April 12, 1931, in Joliet, she was the cherished daughter of the late John Stephen and Mary (Ivan) Gromos.
Lillian was preceded in death by her eldest dear brother, Edward John Gromos, and beloved husband, Michael Petrick, July 5, 2023, with whom she shared many years of marriage and happy family life. Together, they built a legacy that continues through their devoted children, Michele Mary (Jeffrey) Newland and Michael John (Leslie Anderson) Petrick. She was the proud and loving grandmother to Michael Anderson (Hannah) Petrick and Pamela Petrick, who brought her immense joy. She is also survived by her dear younger brother, John Edward (Rose) Gromos; numerous nieces and nephews, Jeff (Tsugumi) Gromos, John (Betsy) Gromos, Juli (Bob) DeCraene, Jodi (Brian) Hartman, Mary Ann (Martin) Hartmann, Patricia (William) Favret, Andrea (Gerald) Knesek, Gary (Pam) Weber, Karen (John) Reilly; and sister-in-law, Anne (John) Weber.
Lillian graduated from Joliet Junior College and worked at Argonne National Laboratory as an executive secretary, participating in the preparation of numerous scientific papers. She had the honor of working directly with Admiral Hyman Rickover, the Father of the Nuclear Navy. While at Argonne, she met and married Mike, and shortly thereafter retired to begin her life as wife and mother.
Lillian loved her friends, her church, and community. The thing that delighted her most in life was when she was surrounded by children. She was a member of the Queen of Apostles Catholic Church, formerly Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Joliet Junior Women's Club, Saint Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary, and The Visitation and Aid Society of Joliet. Lillian enjoyed playing bridge, tennis, and golf. Later in life, she treasured her winters in Naples, Florida.
Friends and family will remember Lillian as a loving and selfless woman known for her compassion and kind heart. Her spirit will remain a guiding light to all who knew her.
Funeral services for Lillian Petrick will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., at Queen of Apostles Catholic Church, 18 Woodlawn Avenue, Joliet. Entombment with immediate family in attendance will be at Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum, Romeoville. A luncheon for family and friends will follow the Funeral Mass.
