Anthony Salvato Obituary

Dr. Anthony R. Salvato
Dr. Anthony R. Salvato, 87, of Newtown, loving husband of the late Patricia Lou Chain and beloved partner to Carol Millman, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. A devoted son, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he lived a life defined by faith, family, friendships and service.
Born in East Norwalk, Connecticut, to Joseph Pasquale Salvato and Frances Mary Basile (Candelora) Salvato, Anthony grew up in a close-knit Italian-American community that instilled in him a deep sense of heritage and belonging. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Phyllis and Geraldine Salvato. Growing up in a vibrant immigrant neighborhood, he shared countless adventures with his childhood friends and cousins. A devoted 'brother' to his sister Gerry, born with intellectual disabilities, who was a central figure in his life. Her unique perspective and vibrant personality taught him invaluable lessons in patience, acceptance, and unconditional love, instilling in him a deep sense of connection and compassion.
Anthony attended Fairfield Preparatory School, where he often credited the Jesuits with teaching him critical thinking and instilling values that shaped his life. He pursued a degree in biology at St. Michael's College in Vermont, where his studies laid the foundation for his future in dentistry.
An Army veteran during the Vietnam War, Anthony served from 1964 to 1966 at Fort Sill Army Hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma. As a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve Dental Corps, he served as the Dental Examining Officer, earning recognition for his dedication and professionalism. Following his military service, he returned to Norwalk, Connecticut, where he established a private dental practice known for its compassionate care and commitment to excellence. Over the years, Anthony continued to refine his craft, attending the prestigious Pankey Institute, which he credited with making him a better dentist, father, and husband.
Anthony was deeply involved in his community, dedicating his time and energy to causes that reflected his values. A member of the Shorehaven Golf Club, he built lifelong friendships and contributed to a vibrant social community. His commitment to public health was evident in his service on the Norwalk Board of Health, where he worked to enhance the well-being of local residents. Additionally, his advocacy for individuals with disabilities through the Connecticut State Developmental Disability Council demonstrated his compassion and dedication to improving the lives of others.
Tony shared a loving marriage with Patricia Lou Chain, whom he met at the Longshore Golf and Country Club. Married for 43 years, they raised four children together in a home filled with love, faith, and mutual respect. Following Patricia's passing, he found companionship and love with Carol Millman, who became a devoted partner and caretaker. 'Papa' cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, taking immense pride in their accomplishments and joy in watching his family grow and thrive.
Whether supporting his children and grandchildren's choices, embracing the Jewish traditions of Carol's family, or cherishing the memories of his late wife, Anthony always prioritized love, family, and respect. His life was a testament to his belief in the strength of family and the enduring power of personal connection.
Anthony is survived by his beloved partner, Carol Millman, and his children: Michael Salvato and his wife Eve Levy; Lori Rodriguez and her husband John; Christopher Salvato and his wife Linda; Lisa Parks, and by his loving grandchildren, Nicholas Salvato, Sophia Salvato, Andrew Rodriguez, Amanda Clark, Samantha Rodriguez-Romano, Jessica Rodriguez, Sarah Rodriguez, Paige Salvato, Marisa Soriano, Noah Parks, and Hannah Parks, and by three cherished great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his extended family, Patricia Lindemann, Eric Lindemann, Stacy Saabye, and Michael Millman, and their spouses, children, and grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Monday, January 27, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Avenue, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 28, at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Avenue, Norwalk, with military honors to follow. Burial will be private.

Anthony was a wonderful friend to me over years, I spoke with him recently when he remembered my birthday. We met in 1980 and I spent many happy times
at his homes in Norwalk, Ridgefield and Newtown. He was devoted to his family and later, to his partner Carol.
My sympathies to all who miss him like I do.
