Barbara Knowles

Barbara Knowles was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on February 9, 1925, daughter of William Floyd Roberts and Susan Bryan Roberts.

Barbara graduated from Classical High School in Springfield, MA and Pratt Institute of Brooklyn, NY, with a degree in Advertising Design. Following her graduation in 1946 she returned to Springfield, MA where she was employed by a silk screen printing company until her 1948 marriage to Chester L. Knowles, Jr. also of Springfield.

Barbara's full life included a career in Real Estate in Norwalk where she owned Shorehaven Realty. Her interests included overseas travel, church, community, and health care volunteer work. One of her greatest pleasures was her love of painting.

She is survived by her husband Chester (of 62 years), their three children Bryan, his wife Karen and their children Sarah and John Knowles of Columbia, MO, Amy Knowles of Thomaston, ME. and Leslie Soyland, her husband John and their three children John, his wife Diana and their son Ayden and Andy and Erik Soyland and her grandson Scott Halihan of Concord, CA. Her daughter Susan Halihan and grandson William Knowles predeceased her.

A celebration of her life will be held 7:00pm, Tuesday, April 20th at the First Congregational Church on the Green, 3 Lewis St., Norwalk, CT. 06851. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to The First Congregational Church on the Green. Interment will be in the family plot at Pleasant View Cemetery, Cushing ME. Arrangements are under the care of Direct Cremation of Maine, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast, Maine.
