Barbara Prothero Obituary

Barbara Prothero
March 31, 2025
In Loving Memory of Barbara Ann Prothero
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved sister Barbara Ann Prothero, who passed away peacefully on March 31, 2025, at the age of 87. Barbara was born on February18, 1938 in Bridgeport, CT to Sherwood (Hap) and Laura Esther Prothero. She was a devoted educator, a lifelong learner, and a cherished sister, aunt, and friend.
A lifelong resident of Norwalk CT, Barbara graduated from Norwalk High School in 1956, furthering her education at Lesley College (Class of 1960) and earning a Master of Science from Southern Connecticut State University (Class of 1971).
Barbara dedicated her life to education, touching the lives of countless students as a passionate and respected teacher. Her commitment to her profession was recognized when she was inducted into the Norwalk High School Teacher Honor Roll in 2011, a testament to her unwavering dedication and impact in the classroom.
Beyond teaching, Barbara was an avid reader, researcher, and genealogist, always eager to uncover stories of the past and expand her knowledge. She had a deep curiosity about the world and a love for learning that she generously shared with those around her.
Barbara is survived by her brother, Sherwood (Chops) Prothero and his wife Joanne, and her sister, Kathleen DeRoin and her husband John. She also leaves behind her beloved nephew, Mitchell, and nieces, Elizabeth, Kelly, and Allyson, as well as several great-nieces and great-nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother, Charlotte Prothero.
A celebration of Barbara's life will be held on April 11, 2025, at Raymond Funeral Home, 5 E Wall Street, Norwalk, at 11 a.m. Followed by a private interment.

I knew Barb from my Norwalk High days. She also became a friend afterwards. We kept in touch awhile and I had moved. We lost that contact. We ran into each other at Stew Leonard´s earlier last year. So good to see her and she hadn´t changed! My condolences to her family.

To Barb´s Family,
My heartfelt condolences to your family. Barb helped me at Norwalk High in the 70´s when I was struggling with class. Oddly we got to know each other and she had dated my Uncle Bob years before. We maintained a friendship after I graduated but then lost touch. We did run into each other at Stew Leonard´s early last year. We said we would get together and I was suppose to call. I didn´t get to it. Sadly. She will never be forgotten by me. We had some good chuckles.
With love~ Cindy
