Judith Lametta Obituary

Judith Fretina Lametta, lovingly known as “Aunt Judy” and “Mema,” passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026, at Norwalk Hospital. She was 88 years old. Born on November 13, 1937, in Norwalk, Connecticut, Judy was the daughter of John Sr. and Genevieve (Gurney) Fretina. A lifelong Norwalk resident, she carried deep roots in the community she loved. Judy was predeceased by her beloved husband of 41 years, Albert Vincent Lametta, Sr., as well as her sisters Barbara Colbert Timocin and Sheila Smith Rogers. She is survived by her loving children: Albert Lametta Jr. (Elaine) and Lisa Lametta. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Brian Lametta, Victoria Bachand, Daniel (Victoria) Lametta, Joshua (Amanda) Bachand, and Cory (Jessica) Lametta. Judy was also blessed with eight cherished great-grandchildren: Sophia Bachand, Oliver Bachand, Luke Lametta, Brian Lametta Jr., Zoe Lametta, Julian Lametta, Vincent Vitale, and Roman Lametta. She is also survived by her sister, Janice Manwaring of Keene, NH, and her brother, John Fretina Jr. of Thailand, along with several cousins, nieces and nephews. Judy graduated from Norwalk High School in 1955, where she earned high honors in typing and stenography. Later in life, she attended Norwalk Community College, proudly embracing her role as a lifelong learner. Throughout her life, Judy held various positions, including waitressing at the Red Coach, working as a cafeteria employee for Norwalk Public Schools, and serving in secretarial and administrative assistant roles at Yankee Metal and VisiRecord. She also worked in customer service before retiring from the Cardiology Department at Norwalk Hospital. Judy found joy in sewing, cooking, reading, watching movies and going to tag sales. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed trips to the beach, occasional visits to the casino, and treasured time spent with family and friends. She will especially be remembered as a fantastic cook. Her beloved meatball recipe — a treasured family favorite — is now proudly in the hands of her third generation, a lasting and delicious legacy of her love. She was also especially proud of climbing the Leaning Tower of Pisa, an accomplishment she often spoke of with a smile. A woman of strong faith and generous spirit, Judy dedicated her time to volunteer work as a committee member of St. Martha’s Hospitality, and volunteering at Manna House, Malta House, and Lifetime Learners. She was also an active member of New Horizons at St. Matthew Church, where she formed many lasting friendships. Family and friends may gather on Thursday, March 5th, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 6th, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06854. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery, 233 Richards Avenue, Norwalk, CT. In lieu of flowers, Judy requested memorial contributions be made to St. Matthew Church located at 216 Scribner Avenue Norwalk, CT 06854. Judy will be remembered for her warmth, devotion to family, strong work ethic, vibrant spirit, and generous heart. Her love and legacy will live on in the many lives she touched.

I knew Judy from St Matthew Church for at least 25 years. She was a pleasure to see and to get a nice big hug. Now I give you - her family this thought - she will always watch over you and hold you in the palm of her hands. God bless you all through the difficult times ahead.

Fondly, Marie D Gentile

RIP Aunt Judy,
You and Uncle Al were the first of the family I remember meeting at a very young age. You always had a smile on your face even when Albert n I got into mischief which was often. When i gave you the most rouge reasons on what happened you couldn't help but to laugh and immediately call my mom.Best laugh ever. You are so in your glory being back with Big Al. You will be missed for sure.
Rest easy.
Love,
Kenneth
Albert and Lisa,
I'm so sorry about Aunt Judy. A peach of a lady.
