Rita Treschitta Obituary

Rita Treschitta
Rita Angela Treschitta, 93, of Norwalk, Connecticut, passed away quietly and at peace on Saturday, September 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born to Nicholas and Antoinette Danese, Rita was the second of their children. She grew up on Testa Place in Norwalk, for Rita, these years were filled with joy, friendships, and memories she cherished and recounted fondly even eight decades later.
A graduate of Norwalk High School's Class of 1950, Rita was voted "Prettiest Girl" by her classmates. She went on to study sewing at Bullard Havens Technical School in Bridgeport, where she met her future husband, John, with whom she shared 54 wonderful years of marriage.
Together, John and Rita raised seven children. Family was always the center of Rita and John's world. Holidays, Sundays, or simply any day she could find a reason to gather, Rita brought everyone together around her table. Her famous escarole soup-complete with chicken parts and countless tiny meatballs she hand-rolled herself-was often the start of a two-hour feast, filled with laughter, stories, and love.
With 6 children and a 7th on the way, Rita returned to school, earning her associate degree and beginning a second career. She worked with the Norwalk Board of Education and later taught sewing at many technical schools across Connecticut, sharing her knowledge and passion for fashion with many.
A master seamstress, Rita's skill was unmatched. She created her own designs and shared her passion with her children, and countless others. For her granddaughters especially, any special event meant a trip to Grandma's for a fitting-or an entire handmade outfit. Beyond clothing, she poured her creativity into quilts, crocheting, and all things handmade with fabric.
In her retirement, Rita embraced painting, exploring oils, watercolors, and acrylics with the same determination she applied to every part of her life. She loved her classes at local senior centers, and her artwork became a joyful expression of her lifelong curiosity and creativity.
Rita was predeceased by her beloved husband, John; her son, Ronald; and her granddaughter, Claire. She carried them deeply in her heart until the day she joined them. She is survived by her sister Dianne Flagello, along with her 6 remaining children: John and his wife Mary, Domenick and Veronica, Kenneth and wife Linda, Louis and wife Nora, Nicholas and his fiancé Jeanne, daughter Melissa Sullivan and her husband Shawn.
Rita adored and is survived by her 18 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
To her family and friends, she was Mom, Grandma, and a dear companion. Her love, strength, grace and has formed us to what we all are today.
Thank you, Mom (and Dad)- you did beautifully, and we were so blessed to have you.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 24, from 5:00–8:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT. A Catholic Funeral Mass will follow on Thursday, September 25, at 10:00 AM at St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Avenue, Norwalk, CT, with interment immediately afterward at St. John's Cemetery, Richards Avenue, Norwalk, CT.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rita's name to St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Ave., Norwalk, CT 06854, where her and her husband were members since its founding.

Rita was my only sib, my younger sister by 18 months. We were alway very close, especially during our very young years. When we both married and had our own family, she and I would get together every Sunday. She with her 6 sons (later Melissa) and me with my two sons. We spent most of our Sunday dinners at grandma and grandpa's house. How the boys loved playing together. and really bonded together. Today, my sons and Rita and John's sons are like brothers. I thank God for those wonderful years .
