Alice Ruzicka Obituary

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - Alice Regina Ruzicka passed away peacefully in her sleep and into the arms of God, at her home in Huntington Beach, Calif., on March 4, 2011, at the age of 96.

She was born Alice Regina Makovicka, one of eight children, on Oct. 29, 1914, in Ulysses, Neb. She married Jerold B. Ruzicka in February 1938, moved to a farm near Polk Nebraska and together they farmed, raising mostly corn, and producing a family of 10 children.

In 1959, they moved to Los Angeles, Calif., later moving to Torrance and finally to Huntington Beach. They were married almost 62 years before Jerold passed away in January 2000.

Alice is survived by eight children, Bridget Gerber of Sun City, Calif., Jerome Ruzicka and wife Marilyn, of Chatsworth, Calif., Florence Crawford and husband, Alan of Kingman, Ariz., Irene Olds of Riverside, Calif., Edward Ruzicka of Grove, Okla., Gregory Ruzicka and wife, Maribel of San Jose, Costa Rica, Jerold J. Ruzicka and wife Connie, of Wyandotte, Okla., and Jeanice Camp and husband, Dennis, of Murrietta, Calif.

She was blessed with 22 grandchildren, Robert Ruzicka, Craig Ruzicka, Susan Schneider, Kenny Ruzicka, Bill Gerber, Brenda Haeberer, Brian Gerber, Brad Gerber, Barry Gerber, Bret Gerber, Michael Ruzicka, Darren Ruzicka, Debbie Smith, Doug Crawford, Mary Alice Avila, Kerry Alice Olds, Jeff Ruzicka, Jennifer Metoyer, Lorenza Ruzicka, Alexandra Ruzicka, Justin Ruzicka and Michelle Camp.

Her grandchildren were also blessed as they produced 23 great-grandchildren which include, Travis and Brandon Schneider; Brent and Lindsay Ruzicka; Ryan and Tyler Gerber; Molly and Madison Gerber; Miranda Ruzicka; Dane and Dash Ruzicka; Nate Crawford; Jason, Nick, Rachel Smith and Katie Campbell; Jack and Shelby Avila; Elijah, Savanah and Maverick Metoyer, and Suede and Rihanna Ruzicka.

She is predeceased by her husband, Jerold, her oldest son, Gilbert and an infant son, Lawrence Leroy.

Alice was a wonderful wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother, as well as a friend to all. She loved gardening and always surrounded herself with beautiful flowers. She also enjoyed playing cards, bingo, rubicube, casino slots and in earlier days, had many 200 plus bowling games and was also an avid photographer.

She was always kind and had a loving heart, and gave generously of her time, talents and treasures whenever needed. Even though, as matriarch of our large family, she will be sorely missed, we rejoice that she is happily at peace with the Angels in Heaven.

Condolences can be sent to: Jeanice Camp, 29250 Pebble Beach Dr., Murrietta, CA 92563.

Visitation will be held at Dilday Brother Funeral Home in Huntington Beach, CA, Friday March 11 from 4 to 8 p.m., with a rosary and Eulogy service at 7 pm.

The funeral mass in celebration of her life will be at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church on Saturday, March 12 at 2 pm., with reception to follow in the church hall.

May she rest in Peace.

Bridget, My deepest condolences on the loss of your mother. When we were in high school together, I remember coming to your house for dinner and then going to our h.s. football game. I remember how calm she seemed to be when there was so much going on around her.

Mom, If everyone could have just one of your traits, the world would be a better place. You showed love, hospitality, generosity and respect to everyone you ever met. I will think of you everyday...forever!

Although I only met Alice once as a teenager, my thoughts and prayers go out to you Jeanice and family. As a child your mother is a nurturer and as an adult she becomes your best friend. Loved unconditionally!

I well remember Alice Ruziska's calm and poise as so many of her childrens friends visited her home at the same time. She always seemed to be pleased that we were at the "Ranch" but I cann't imagine her capacity for hospitality. However I will never forget it. Polk was never the same place after the Ruzicka family moved.
