Alvin was born on September 17, 1930 at Ashton, NE to Peter F.A. and Laura E. (Obermiller) Glinsmann. He was baptized and confirmed at the little country church, Immanuel Lutheran, near Ashton. He grew up on the farm near Ashton and attended country grade school one mile from home, and graduated from Ashton High School in 1948. Alvin remained at home after graduation until December 1949 when he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After basic training at Ft. Riley, KS he was sent to Hawaii at Schofield Barracks with the 555th Field Artillery Battalion. At the outbreak of the Korean War his unit was alerted to join the UN Forces to repel the North Koreans. He served there from July 1950 to August 1951. He was released from active duty in June 1952. In September that year he entered Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield, IL. While there, he met and married Marian L. Seifert at Chatham, IL. Alvin and Marian were blessed with two sons and two daughters; Alan and Jonathan and Dawn and Beth. Following graduation from Concordia, he was called to his first parish in Bazine, KS where he served for five and a half years. Following that he served for a total of 33 years in the ministry at Shawnee, KS, Great Falls, MT and Rapid City, SD.

Alvin was a man of deep faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and was always an encourager to his family.

Al obtained his private pilot license and flew from 1966 to 1985, enjoying flying his family and friends on a variety of adventures. He also enjoyed cars and, although he was a Ford man, took special pride in his 1968 Chrysler convertible. He enjoyed backpacking with his boys in Montana. Alvin grew up as a fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He enjoyed watching the games for his entire life. While living with his young family in Kansas City, he became a Chiefs fan, and enjoyed seeing their recent success in two Super Bowls. It was a pleasure for the entire family.

In retirement Al and Marian were blessed to live in a country development in the Black Hills west of Rapid City for 25 years. During these years they enjoyed camping in their RV, visiting not only their families in Nebraska and Illinois, but traveling to many National Parks and states as well as visiting Hawaii and taking the inside passage cruise to Alaska. In 1990 they fulfilled a life-long dream of visiting their roots in Germany, where all their grandparents had immigrated from. In March 2018 they moved from Rapid City to Loup City, NE.

Alvin is survived by his beloved wife, Marian of Loup City, NE; son, Alan Glinsmann of Kansas City, KS; son, Jonathan (Pam) Glinsmann of Great Falls, MT; daughter, Dawn (Scott Matthews) Glinsmann of Kirkland, WA; daughter, Beth Glinsmann of Kansas City, KS; sisters, Shirley Ficken of Elkhorn, NE and Ethel (Dale) Rasmussen of Windsor, CO; sisters-in-law, Virginia Glinsmann of Loup City, NE and Frances Glinsmann of Ravenna, NE; and many nieces and nephews. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Merle, Ervin, David, Donald and Wendell; and sister Ruby.

I'm so very sorry to hear of Al's passing. I still see him as he was during my visit to see you both in S. Dakota. I have wonderful memories of him driving us to see the sights, playing Chickenfoot, and of course , wine and cheese in the afternoons. Thank you Al for the memories. You certainly will not be forgotten
