Steve, Joanne, Donald and family,
I was so sorry to hear of your loss. We grew up in a great part of Hastings with the best neighbors there were. And you guys were a big part of that. My family was so sorry to hear of your loss and our heart goes out to you. Reading these entries I see David grew up to be just a wonderful man as he was a kid. I remember him always being a happy fun guy and very friendly and it seemed to transfer into adulthood. May God guide you through this difficult time and the kind words of all that knew David comfort you. My deepest sympathy.

Mr. Cushing was an excellent teacher and coach. His enthusiasm in the field of science and in life have been a great influence. May he rest in peace. I was a 7th grader in his first year at Cedar Hollow 10 years ago, and his class was always something I think we all looked forward to.

Mr. Cushing was our grandaughter Kaitie Warner's favorite teacher. She loved science and excelled in it thanks to his great teaching. Kaitie's grandfather is a retired 7th grade science teacher so he always asked what she was studying in science and was always impressed with the answers. I know Kaitie along with all her fellow students will miss him dearly. Few teachers touch their students as deeply as Mr. Cushing and that's a wonderful legacy.

Mr. C you made it so both my brother and I loved science. You were such a great person, I always know if I was having a bad day I could go to your classroom and you would find away to make me laugh. I also know if I ever need help in a class you I could count on you to aleast try and help me. I will really miss seeing you when I go to Cedar Hollow to visit. You definitely touch my life you will always be in my heart. I hope you know how many students and other people you meant the world to. I'm praying for your family.

You were the light in many peoples lives. You brought forth their creative energy and with that, your students were able to expand their education and emotional well being. Your brought a smile to our faces when we were sad. Your candle of light will never burn out, because here on earth...your lite will still create memories that can't be replace by anyone. We know that Jesus called you home to help with those in Heaven, that needed your way of teaching those that need you. We will see you on the other side some day, and I hope your report card is as outstanding as you have been to us.

Cush, you were the best. We were in sports at Hastings High and Hastings College together. You always gave it your all with a great attitude. You can throw a block for me anytime, on any field or matt. You even worked with me and we had a great time doing it. We even had some fun outside of work and school. I know your were a great teacher and coach. RIP my friend, you will be missed by more people than you will ever know. Meet you on the other side. The world is a bit smaller this week because of our loss. ROW

Steve, Joanne, Donald and family,
I have so many great memories of our families together, growing up, especially at the lake. I'll always remember David trying to reel in the fish and drinking hot chocolate with our tents being blown over in the storms, seems like only yesterday. Our memories keep our loved ones in our hearts forever, and David will always be a part of mine. May you find comfort and a smile or two in your memories. Wish we could be there to give you all a hug in this tremendously hard time. All of our love and thoughts

Coach Cush,
You were such an inspiration to everyone whether it was Coaching, Teaching or just being a friend. I will never forget the undefeated Cedar Hollow Basketball year we had together and how much you praised that the only way we could do it was playing as a TEAM. You taught me life lessons that I will never forget. God Bless You and Your Family! I will always miss and remember you!

Mr. C., that's what the kids called him when our daughter, Jessica, was at Cedar Hollow. He was one of those teachers, that as parents, we were glad to have as a positive influence and role model for our kids. It is because of Mr. C that our daughter learned her love of science and excelled in the subject. Even after Cedar Hollow and Northwest High School, Jessica has kept in contact with him. In fact, she will graduate this next spring from Nebraska Wesleyan University with a double major in Bio-Chemestry and Biology, and is currenly applying for Pharmacy school. Thank you Mr. C. You will be forever in our hearts.
