Ernest R. Maly

Ernest R. Maly, 86, of Ord, passed away Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022, at the Valley County Health System Hospital in Ord surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Ord First United Methodist Church. Pastor Spenser Johnson will officiate. Burial will be at the Ord Bohemian Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the Ord VFW Post 7029 and American Legion Post 38.
Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at the Ord Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Ord Senior Center or the Ord Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Ernest Ray was born June 20, 1935, on the family farm in the Springdale Township of Valley County, Neb. He was raised on the farm and received his education at the local country school.
Ernie served in the U.S. Army from September 1958 to July 1960, and was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. Following his service, Ernest returned to the family farm.
On May 1, 1962, he was united in marriage to Gwendolyn Ann Vogt at Ravenna. The couple made their home on the Maly farmstead eight miles northeast of Ord in the Springdale Township of Valley County. Ernie spent his life living and working on the family farm.
Gwen passed away in May 2013. At that time, Ernie moved into Ord and has made his home at Parkview Village.
Ernie was a member of the BetterLife Dennice 14 Lodge and currently served as its president. He served on the Springdale School Board and was a member of the VFW.
Ernie enjoyed playing cards, especially UNO. His main love was polka music. He faithfully listened to the Molly B and Big Joe Polka shows. Ernie and Gwen enjoyed dancing together and made the "Blue Skirt Waltz" their song.
Survivors include two sons, Raymond Maly of Burwell and Randy Maly of Ord; three daughters and a son-in-law, Diane and Terry Spilinek of Elba, Evelyn Schaaf and her significant other, Jake Koch of Ord and Delores Hopper and her friend, James Gordon of Omaha; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gwen; a daughter-in-law, Alberta Maly; and three brothers and two sisters-in-law; Frank and Mildred, Paul and Minnie and Raymond.
