www.soltwagnerfuneral.com. Marie Yvonne was born Feb. 10, 1937, in America Samoa to Wiley and Luisa (Schuster) Shafer. Her family moved to Hawaii when she was in eighth grade. Living in Hawaii, Marie enjoyed participating in her native Samoan culture and spoke the language fluently.
Marie married Richard (Dick) Munn on May 25, 1963. They met and lived in Hawaii while Dick was serving in the U.S. Navy. After that, they moved to Dick's hometown of Central City, where they raised their son, Mike and their daughter, Yvonne.
Although Marie missed the tropical weather of Hawaii, she fell in love with the people of Central City and Nebraska. She became a member of the Lutheran church and enjoyed their fellowship. Marie enjoyed cooking and was well-known for her special BBQ ribs made with her native Samoan spices. She also enjoyed keeping up with current world events. She preferred to watch news channels and then engage in lively debates on the current hot topics.
Despite the fact that Marie was not familiar with American football, she soon became a huge fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Everyone knew you should never call Marie during a Husker football game. Marie enjoyed going to several home games and even attended many away games with Dick. She traveled with Dick on several of his business trips and would try to get back to visit family and friends in Hawaii as often as possible.
Marie is survived by her husband, Dick; her son, Mike and Cindy Munn; and her daughter, Yvonne Munn, all of Central City; her sons, Patrick Sakurada and Michael and Michelle Sakurada all of Maui, Hawaii, and Carl and Kone Wells of Las Vegas, Nev.; her sisters, Mary Peralta of Las Vegas, Nev., and Loretta and Jerome Pollard of Honolulu, Hawaii; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Julianna, Susie and Tino; and her brothers, Pio and Lucky.
