Marilyn Condon
August 30, 1931 - December 5, 2023
Salt Lake City - Marilyn Condon passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023, in Salt Lake City. She was 92.
Marilyn was born in Grand Island, Nebraska, on Aug. 30, 1931. She was the only child of loving parents, Clayton and Florence Pollard. She enjoyed school and attended Grand Island Senior High. She graduated from Lincoln General Hospital School of Nursing in Lincoln, Nebraska, and became a registered nurse.
In 1953, Marilyn met the love of her life, Virgil Condon, and the two were married on June 20, 1954. Virg graduated from medical school in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1955, and their adventures began: internship in Tacoma, Washington; two years of Navy duty in San Diego; more schooling for Virg in Denver, Colorado, and Columbia, Missouri, before settling down in Salt Lake City, where Marilyn's parents joined them a few years later.
Marilyn was blessed to be the mother to five healthy children - Craig, Scott, Marc, Kelly and Kent, and her life revolved around family, friends and her church family at First Presbyterian Church. Marilyn enjoyed being a homemaker and pursuing volunteer opportunities at her church, the PTA, Holy Cross Hospital, and the Ronald McDonald House. She was also an active member of the PEO, where she formed close friendships and associations.
Some of Marilyn's fondest endeavors included hiking, camping, swimming, sailing, skiing, tennis and golfing with her family - and in particular time spent at the family cabin at Bear Lake in Idaho. She enjoyed board games, playing cards and preparing wonderful meals (she was a master waffle maker, among many other dishes). To see her laugh was a treasure to behold.
Marilyn also enjoyed traveling the country and the world and was an avid sports fan (University of Utah, Nebraska football and Utah Jazz). Marilyn was a lifelong learner and enjoyed the theatre and the symphony, and was often in the middle of a good book. Her greatest tragedies were losing her oldest child, Craig, in 1980 in a car accident, and her middle child, Marc, in 1983 in a motorcycle accident.
Marilyn is survived by her husband of 69 years, Virgil Condon; children Scott (Bridget Walker), Bellingham, Washington; Kelly (Graham) Reeve, San Antonio; Kent (Jennifer) Salt Lake City; and grandchildren Thomas (Julianna) Reeve, Little Rock, Arkansas; Caitlin Reeve, Dallas; Annie Condon, Christian Condon and Nate Condon, Salt Lake City; and sister-in-law DeVonne Snow, Hot Springs, South Dakota. In lieu of flowers, send contributions to Primary Children's Medical Center, First Presbyterian Church or the Ronald McDonald House.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 11, 2023, at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church at 12 C St E, Salt Lake City, Utah 84103, a reception at the church will follow.
