Marion D. Omel
August 24, 1929 - August 11, 2025
Marion D. Omel, 95, of Cheyenne, WY, formerly of Grand Island, passed away on August 11, 2025. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, August 19 at 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Reverend Adam Snoberger officiating. Burial to follow at the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Marion was born on August 24, 1929, in Giltner, Neb. to Armand and Alta (Lanterman) Omel. He was raised and received his education in the Giltner area. In high school, he was given the nickname 'Tuffy' due to his onery personality which he continued to live up to throughout his entire life. After graduating from high school, Marion enlisted in the United States Army in June of 1951, where he proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in December of 1953 from Camp Carson, Colorado.
On March 4, 1956, Marion was united in marriage to Delores Meyer at St. John's Lutheran Church in Palmer. In their 66 years of marriage, they drove thousands of miles, traveled to 48 states, and went on five cruises. When they headed out for a Sunday drive, you never knew where they would end up.
Marion made a living first as a farmer, and later worked in maintenance at the Grand Island Power Plant for over 25 years. He attended Trinity Lutheran Church for many years and was an active member in the church community.
In his spare time, Marion was an avid sports fan. A few of his favorites were Husker football, Husker baseball, and the horse races. He loved playing pool and cards with friends and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Lisa Omel; and his grandchildren, Andrea (Justin) Davis and kids Heath (Lesley) Rowbal and kids, Hank (Angela) Rowbal and kids, Heather (Adam) Grupe and kids, and Amanda Kanareff; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Pat Omel; brothers-in-law, Howard Hurley, Clarence Hiegel and Paul Meyer; and several extended family members.
Marion was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delores; daughter, Cindy Omel; grandson, Nathan Omel; brothers, Leal Omel, Fostin 'Toot' Omel, Myron Omel, Gerald 'Jerry' Omel and Warren 'Bud' Omel; sisters, Liva Omel, Evelyn Hilton, Verna Hilton and Donna Hurley; sisters-in-law, Velma Omel, Martha Omel, and Lucille Omel; and brother-in-law, Paul Hilton.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church.
